I have been working at Bio-Reference Labs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opko purchased BioReference in Aug 2015. Until then BioReference had operated in a small company mode even though their revenue was over 800 million per year and they grew 15% to 25% per year. After the purchase more corporate procedures and processes were incorporated as expected (and often needed) but the corporate culture changed.

    Cons

Since the turnover of CEO Marc Grodman approximately a year ago the company culture has significantly changed. Implementation of SAP, and many other systems have decreased corporate productivity. There has been significant upper management turnover, especially in the genetics area.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more regarding business strategy. Employees are always concerned with change and reduced growth.

I worked at Bio-Reference Labs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Insurance is great, having $20 copays for any doctor visit, no referral necessary. Also, pay is pretty good and you get a $3 increase after a year of working as an IHC lab tech. Work is always flowing so you never get bored and you truly feel a sense of satisfaction knowing you're helping a patient.

    Cons

People can really be aggravating to work with when they're more interested in everyone's personal life than in focusing on the integrity of the work. Management has favorites resulting in inequality in the work environment when it comes to days off. Shifts rival and complain about each other.

    Advice to Management

Please stop imposing changes without actually thoroughly educating yourself about what goes on in the lab and why it's done. Processes are implemented in accordance to work flow, so you cannot expect every day to pass flawlessly. Also, instead of trying to blame individuals for mistakes, focus on encouraging a group effort to get the task done. After all, it doesn't matter who ran the wrong test, what matters is fixing it.

I have been working at Bio-Reference Labs part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are the best thing in this company. It has great health insurance, 401K, life insurance, disability insurance.

    Cons

Everything else the work load is not hard but management it's not the greatest. It's like being in jail with a chance to go home after your shift. They treat you like you are in kindergarten, you can't talk, you can't go to the bathroom for longer than 5 minutes because trust me they would be looking for you or worst paging you. So if you have to bad bladder stay away because they won't tolerate you going to the bathroom. The parking is another disaster, I been with the company for 5 Years and I still can't park on site. The shuttle service it's the worst, they would see you and they won't wait for you, now your late to work going in or late to get home because you have to wait another 20 minutes to get into another shuttle. Like I said the Insurance it's great and all the benefits but that's about it, that's what kept me here for 5 Years now I'm ready to go!
The pay its the lowest in my opinion compare to other labs and this is after trying to get us to the same "level" of the other labs. Still low for what they expect.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like they have no value. hint why so many people left in the past months.

    Reward your hard workers!
