    Pros

Biogen Idec is a great company that really looks out for its employees. The employees themselves are talented, inquisitive, and understand the importance of knowledge sharing. The benefits are absolutely amazing and there is a real sense of the need for work-life balance. There is a beer hour every Friday that allows employees to meet outside of work. I would recommend a career at Biogen Idec to anyone.

    Cons

Because of the growing business, there are many new people, so it can be hard to get the background behind an issue that occurred a while before. It is also in downtown Cambridge, so commutes can be difficult.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

    Pros

The people are fantastic - there is a nice sense of belonging and that we are making a difference in peoples' lives.

    Cons

Long hours - you have to put the time and effort re: the employees at all levels are highly ambitious, motivated and the pace is fast.

    Advice to Management

Diversity is critical for BIIB success.

    Pros

    well led company, benefits, pay

    Cons

    work hours are VERY long.

    Advice to Management

Remember that people work a lot of hours--recent cost cutting and its effects (no inter-department transfers, cutting contractors, no new-hires, no conferences, etc.) will lead to people leaving.

    Pros

The benefits are great. Full medical coverage. Beautiful facilities and very nice people to work with. Management ensures that you're going in the direction you want to go.

    Cons

Downsizing is resulting in entire sites to shut down. This leaves many employees with very little choice to relocate for some, or for others, to find themselves on the job market in tough times.

    Advice to Management

Management has done a great job in keeping employees fulfilled with their positions. Keep up with the recognition awards, promotions, etc., and employees will be happy.

    Pros

    Friendly environment, excellent infrastructure.
The leadership is good and a very exciting place to be working. Good knowledge transfer and cross functional training

    Cons

Engineering is pretty difficult to get in for entry level candidates. Flexible workforce and that may be a con for some.

    Advice to Management

Increase cross functional training globally. Capital investment on the core competency research can also boost the companies performance in the future.

    Pros

Great direct management who genuinely care about you and the doctors and patients we serve. The benefits are amazing and did not fully realize how great they were until leaving.

    Cons

Difficult to advance if living in a smaller metro area. They also have a lot of meetings, but the meetings do provide good updates.

    Advice to Management

Continue building the culture that cares about the employees and the people we serve. This is a great company that is driven by its culture.
