Good pay and benefits. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Never had a support of my manager. Too much stress at work will forec me to quit.

    Advice to Management

Why should I advice the upper management? I don't believe upper management really cares of simple scientists.

"Employees are GREAT .... Management is awful"

    Pros

When working with the employees the are great, they share information they really appreciate the information you impart to them.

    Cons

Management has no idea what-so-ever as to what is going on.
They complain about things they are actually the root cause of.
When you have a discussioin about a timeline which has a bearing on the conversation, they have no idea of what has happened when.
They ask you a question, you answer it and then they accuse you of being defensive.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking you are automatically smarter than your employees just because you are paid more than them. That's Sr. Management's fault, not the employee's. Sr. Management needs to start emparting information to the employees (not just management) if you want people to pull in the same direction.

The company does great work for sick people, then need to start acting like a good company, not just say they are.

I worked at Biogen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Compensation, time off, fantastic health benefits, very smart, dedicated co-workers, parking is paid for, T Pass subsidy, career growth if you have an experienced, skilled manager. Some departments are known as being great groups in which to work.

    Cons

It is absolutely true that if you have a good manager, he/she will support you, challenge you, and promote you. There are a few very good, high-EQ managers at Biogen. Many of the managers have been promoted because they were successful as individual contributors, but they are lacking in developing and recognizing strengths in their people. It is unfortunate. I had seven different managers in my career and of the 7, only one was truly a people manager who wanted to be a manager (not just on the way up the ladder).

The new office configuration is trendy and on the plus side, everyone is near the windows and even the senior management sit in cubicles. On the downside, the noise is quite distracting and it can be difficult to concentrate.

As the company has grown, the culture has suffered. So many silos exist and the sense of "we are all in this together" has decreased. New hires want only to scale the corporate ladder and the attitude (set at the very top) is that as long as a project gets completed on time, it does not matter how many bodies have been left behind on the way to completion. The company says they want team players but nobody has ever received a huge bonus for being a team player.

Although Biogen is very generous with vacation time, etc., it is nearly impossible to take that time off. People work and work and work and then go home to work more. Burnout is extremely high. It is not uncommon for people to work early into the morning at times. Biogen talks about work-life balance but in reality it does not exist.

    Advice to Management

Hire and promote managers (at all levels) who are people managers. Take action for those managers who are not performing well. If most of the members of a team visit HR during the course of a year while working for a manager, look into why and what the problem might be. Don't assume that you have a case of "group think". You hire only the brightest, most talented employees. Give them some credit.

    Pros

Great benefits, the name for now but don't hold you breathe

    Cons

Stuck in their own ways, Politics just politics. Things DO NOT GET DONE because leads, supervisors and managers are too busy BSing each other. This place is just toxic. After the smoke effect clears out on how great Biogen is, you will realize that you aren't valued and they don't care about you. Only goals is to get as much out of you. They will not reward you unless you are part of their click.

    Advice to Management

How about do your job and not other people's jobs. If each department worked on what they are suppose to do like support the actual manufacturer which is us. All these support group and just pushing paper around...

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, company stock options, latest technology available for all employees, on-site gym, great company atmosphere (as long as your not in PS).

    Cons

Lack of clear communication from top down. Everyone has different interpretation of policies which leads to supervisors abusing power in their role; they can either make you or break you. It's a who you know, not what you know environment.

    Advice to Management

Trust the talent you hired to do their job! Provide transparency this will earn you trust. Show that care about your employees through actions not words read from a presentation. Be honest and realistic. Give process a chance instead of changing course every other day.

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cadillac benefits. Substantial pay (for those who have been with company 5years+ before pay dropped)

    Cons

Patient services within Biogen seems to be largely disconnected from the rest of the company. the president and vp truly control EVERYTHING. Work life balance is nonexistent and there is constant pressure to work overtime hours simply because leadership sets unrealistic goals and expectations. There is no transparency and policies are very subjective to the deferment of employees. Employees are afraid to speak up, disagree with manage my without fear of backlash and blackballing. employees are treated like elementary school students meaning you have to code yourself to be able to use bathroom take breaks or eat lunch. You can be questioned for any bathroom use that is considers 'excessive'. Employees are penalized for taking time from work to care for themselves and their family. Wonder vacation benefits but senior leadership has right threshold of how many people can be off a day. Many have lost days of vacation time because of this. Builds wrong behaviors in people because of unrealistic attendance policy. No work from home opportunities unless it is to the advantage of the business. Culture is based on fear and entirely different than corporate and manufacturing departments. Other than great benefits no real incentive to work there. Growth in patient services is nonexistent as managers demand that employees use their vacation or work overtime for any development or job shadowing opportunities. Senior managers is system that promotes bullying and intimidation. Employees are held accountable to departmental goals and metrics that change throughout the year without communication. Patient services seems to have lost its purpose and line of sight. It has gone from a company that truly cared about patients on Biogen therapies to that of hustling tactics to get patients to switch from other medication to Biogen therapies and pressuring them to stay on a bygone medication. It is ALL about the bottom line. Goal seems to be to get one person to work as 3 individuals. Did I mention NO WORK LIFE BALANCE! Would rather employees to work 6days a week simply because management does not how to delegate. Promotions are not based on experience and skill set but rather who knows and if they like you. Very high school environment where popularity and who you know is the only way to move up the ladder. In conclusion, if you are looking for an employer who does not value your work, overlooks you from promotions, expects you to live at work, penalizes you for not coming to work when you or family member is sick, requires you to provide calculation of time used away for bathroom use and lunch use, does not allow you to use vacation hours, pushes for you to work on company holidays, operates on bully system and cowardly coaching, views being late to work 1min the same as 4hrs and gives out demerits for it, no work from home opportunists, no transparency, tyrannical rule, and a strong disconnect of what employees do then working at Patient Services with Biogen is just for you.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. You have highly educated individual who have great work backgrounds and you make no use of it. Stop squandering talent. Ease up on the reigns and stop the intense micromanaging. Live up to a harassment free work environment (seriously you have employees in anxiety medication, having panic attack, and breakdowns from harassment of they managers). Learn the culture of Biogen and allow it to grow in patient services. employees working there 3 years-to new hire should expect to make AT LEAST half of what other employees make. Pay is not on par with the market of the level of work that is done.

I worked at Biogen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and a good variety of shifts. Met some awesome people and the company did offer some good incentives sometimes. Good benefits package.

    Cons

No work life balance. You get a lot of vacation but you are not able to take it when you want to and you end up losing it. Strict work environment. Employees are treated like children and are being micro-managed. Promotions are not done fairly. The same people always receive rewards and promotions. Little involvement from supervisors in career development. High stress work environment caused by management and intimidation tactics that are sometimes used. Lots of people have gotten sick and the ambulance had to come out due to people feeling like they are not allowed to miss work because of the strict adherence policy.

    Advice to Management

    Get new ones!

    Pros

paid my basic overhead while employed

    Cons

unprofessional, my work was swiped by long term employees, I was bullied at my desk by peers who were employees in addition to being picked on and made fun of for eating salad at lunch and running after work. Most higher level HR have long commutes and have tenure to pick choose and bully up when then feel an urge. They back up other long term employees that keep them employed. It blue shirt black market old school.

    Advice to Management

no comment. they control the bullying.
