    Pros

Health insurance and retirement benefits are very good. This is a hold over from past days.

    Cons

Very negative culture. Leadership is absent on multiple levels and throughout the company. Management does not value differing points of view. Management only wants ‘yes’ men and women. This place use to inspire teams to leverage diversity of thought to better achieve a richer outcome, now it uses fear and negativity to try and achieve their goals.

The environment at Biogen is unstable. People are constantly getting laid off. I’ve had 6+ managers in the last 12 months. My story unfortunately is not uncommon.

I’ve seen Biogen hire people and relocate them, only to let them go a few months later. Wow.

With the numerous layoffs and reorganizations throughout the company (several times within the same functions), the opportunity for career growth has been reduced to nearly zero. People are removed from their current positions and ‘placed’ in others with no regards as to whether they want that role or not. While others who are applying for those ‘open’ roles are left with no opportunity to grow or expand. This happens often.

Many people at Biogen are leaving in droves because the culture is so negative. Beware, not a healthy or good place to work.

    Advice to Management

People make or break a company. Advice to the Board: Get rid of Michel. The culture starts at the top. Michel and his management team have instilled a very negative culture at Biogen. Michel was a bad choice for CEO a very bad choice.

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great salary and benefits
    Great people

    Cons

    Incompetent leadership
Lack of communication at all levels
    Extremely low morale
    Zero trust in leadership
Future of the company is unclear

    Advice to Management

You need to start leading. Have a vision and trust your teams to make that vision a reality. Rebuild trust, provide clear direction, stop the constant restructuring. Nobody will be successful including you if you cannot do these things. If you need to spend millions to have an outside consulting group come in to tell you how to run your business or do your jobs then you should be replaced.

    Pros

Benefits, salary and great colleagues. Good systems and great past. Unfortunately everything has changed with the new CEO and with the McKinsey project to cut costs.

    Cons

Nepotism, politics, short term focus. Lack of clear strategy. Constant restructuring. Fear to speak up. Constant cost cutting. Lack of long term perspective.

    Advice to Management

    Respect your people

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great medical benefits for employees. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who do the work. Profitable company who cares about patients. Great potential.

    Cons

Management in IT is a complete disaster from the top all the way down. Turn over is high and no one can seem to make a decision about where the organization is going. Everyone but the managers are over worked and unappreciated. Don't count on a promotion and watch out for empty promises. IT is moving towards outsourced resources or high paid contractors while the full time employees worry if they will still have a job.

    Advice to Management

Stop neglecting your employees and make smarter choices. Take a closer look at managers and directors. The only reason they look good is because the people they have working under them do outstanding work while they take the credit.

salary. Makes you appreciate any other company. I see no other pros.

    Cons

Worst company to work for. Incompetent management promotes the worst since fears competition. Culture ot terror, betrayal and bullying. Promotions are given to the least competent. Culture of back stabbing.

    Advice to Management

Sell it to some better pharma company

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

good benefit, smart scientist at the time when I joined.

    Cons

Every year re-org, employee is horribly treated! High level managers never care!

    Advice to Management

Frequent re-org can not prove you are good at management. No one wants to work at a place where they have to worry for the future everyday.

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very, very grateful to Biogen, George Scangos, Tony Kingsley, Doug Williams, John Cox, and Paul Clancy for some truly awesome years of learning and growth. Those executives were among the best in Fortune 500.

    Cons

An absolutely amazing company rotted from the inside in a matter of two years. What's left is a rotting carcass. Exodus of incredible talent, some from layoffs, others voluntarily. CEO has no idea what he is doing. 6 months behind closed doors with McKinsey talking about god knows what, in the meantime hemorrhaging the last remnants of top talent. Board made a huge mistake pushing executives out. They made some mistakes, yes, but we ditched imperfect but highly talented executives and the result was chaos and destruction. It will take years to rebuild what we had and it can't be done with this CEO.

By the way, Indeed reviews for Biogen are very clearly manipulated. Glassdoor reviews seem to be giving an honest assessment of the situation overall.

    Advice to Management

Not even sure what to say. We all posted here in the Fall with advice and CEO did the exact opposite bringing McKinsey in for secretive closed door discussions. You had one chance to re-boot and build trust and you totally blew it.

    Pros

Great benefits; access to training and development. Very competitive pay. Wonderful people below senior execs who really care about patients and world class Dev Organization

    Cons

New CEO is killing off what was great. McKinsey is running the show and people fear more layoffs. The executive team is totally out of touch with what is really happening. It's very sad. No one dares dissent.

    Advice to Management

    Go back to Merck
