    Pros

Work life balance, benefits, competitive salary, overall culture minus the ole' boys club mentality, flexible work hours

    Cons

Favoritism, lack of accountability, lots of politics, no growth due to leadership clogging positions, ole' boys club, lack of real development in new supervisors

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Pay above the average; if you are in the R&D space you are in heaven; the company does put resources on it; brilliant minds.

    Cons

still has to create a culture of excellence and no focus on designing and maintaining a strategy for people - good opportunistic approaches exist for those truly engaged on networking and able to manage up well.

    Advice to Management

Be more global and focus more on people.

I worked at Biogen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very competitive salaries and benefits; RTP has a company shut down end of the year which is not factored into your Paid Vacation allotment, so you technically get an extra week of paid time off in addition to the amount you have earned.

    Cons

Very Micro-managed, Upper departmental leadership didn't have a clue what the day to day "true" priorities were for those on the front lines of the call center so their measurements for success were not fair or reasonable on any level. Also, it was not easy to take advantage of the Paid time off due to a low threshold or allowance for how many staff could be off at one time. It made booking vacation time a nightmare and almost a given that last minute time off was just not going to happen. As a result, many staff would call out sick when they needed time off for something important like a wedding or family reunion that they didn't know about 6 months previously so they couldn't book off at that time.

    Advice to Management

Patient Services Leadership: Listen to your front line staff and what they need, they do have good insight to share and many veterans are true experts in what they do each day. You are not an expert if you have not done the job for several years. Use the experienced staff to go to round tables and brainstorm sessions when considering change. Consider their input when feedback is given and don't ignore it (ie - the Dialer - enough said!!). Be a bit more generous and considerate in approving time off and you will have much less "call outs' for sick time usage. Revamp the metrics system. Different regions have very different trends and issues so the metrics that are applied across the country don't work for each region. When monitoring for quality, don't nit-pick. Staff are reacting on the fly and have one second to think of a response to a person, when you are listening to quality calls you have plenty of time to think of an excellent response which is a luxury that the employee who is live on the phone does not have.

I have been working at Biogen (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I liked my position. I was able to shadow other departments for training. Coworkers were very accommodating. Teamwork was essential to complete many tasks.

    Cons

Micromanagement in many high-level areas. Management can be very condescending at times. Your success was independent upon the management team in which worked. Heavy workloads due to unbalanced work assignments on associates. If you speak up, you will ignored or your workload may increase to a level that may you decide to leave. Turnover was beginning to increase.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate micromanaging of employees. HR and Management is aggressive in hiring top talent. There are employees who are in positions in which their skill level does not allow them to perform the job successfully.

    Pros

Excellent benefits package working for Biogen. Additional perks are nice. Company is constantly changing to stay relevant in the marketplace.

    Cons

Business process and systems are not best in class and could be better. Company does not excel at project management and it's not clear who own what and drives improvements.

    Advice to Management

Need to remove the dead weight. Need to evaluate the contribution of long tenured employees who's contribution is minimal and effectively manage them.

I worked at Biogen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good pay for a call center, but they are starting to pile the work on and expectations are absurd.

    Cons

Biogen started out as a good company. They have been slowly taking away opportunities for advancement and perks of the company for patients services for years. The environment became oppressive and plenty of people suffered from mental health stress and burn out. A lot of the benefits that you get, like vacation, you can't even use. They survey every year and commit to changing for the better and every year gets worse!

    Advice to Management

All those surveys you keep sending out! Use them for change!
