    Pros

You had to be tenacious and resilient to excel at this company, which are good traits to develop in a sales role. Enjoyable people for the most part. Freedom to run your own business.

    Cons

They hid our commission reports from us for over a year in the hopes that we wouldn't dispute incorrect payments. At one point they overpaid commission to some of us and waited until an out of state awards dinner to use it as blackmail against us. Poorly handled overall and very sneaky on their part. Our VP came to the office to eliminate our district mgr position, but caught wind of it and pushed out our sales mgr...

    Advice to Management

Be up front with your sales staff. Do not hide things or be shady about their commission. That is the quickest way to lose their respect for good.

I have been working at Birch Communications

    Pros

Good starting salary for a job right out of college

    Cons

Very difficult to hit sales quotas, completely ridiculous margins means you will be selling a product that is more expensive than almost EVERY other competitor, even though it is a commodity...

    Advice to Management

Change your margins or risk failing in the long run

I worked at Birch Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Basic industry and product knowledge. The Sales process is drilled into your head, (which is a good thing) but at the end of the day, you gotta be able to think outside of the box, and color outside the lines. You are told to "separate" yourself from the competition and stand out. BUT, be careful! It can backfire on you very quick.

    Cons

Micromanaging. Had to learn from trial & error. Favoritism demonstrated IF you sold something. House accounts (inorganic deals) used against you to keep you motivated. There is NO management...at all. If you can't sell it, Mgr will go around you to, 1.)close it OR 2.)screw it up! No customer service (it's not an SAE's job) You give out the customer care hotline number and move on to the next victim. Kids managing kids....

    Advice to Management

Train your management to "manage a team". Invest in having a program in place to transition them from being the best rep to a top notch coach! If you train A rep, you will get A trained rep! If you train A team you will get A trained team! It's that simple, Birch. Dangling a carrot in front of them and using passive aggressive scare tactics will only hurt your industry reputation. And trust me, word DOES travel fast!...

      I worked at Birch Communications

      Pros

flexible hours is really about it

      Cons

This is by far the worst company to work for. The company pushes you to sell but can't deliver.

I have been working at Birch Communications full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Freedom to plan your day and run your own business Great group of coworkers

      Cons

Very disorganized support team All previous perks taken away post-acquisition Great group of products-can't seem to get anything installed Once a contract is out of your hands the customer experience goes downhill No concern over employees or customers. Everything is bottom-line driven. Weekly system outages from email to databases and critical applications. Not enough support coverage to run effective appointments....

      Advice to Management

Do something right please. At least care enough about your customers to not treat every single one like they should be so thankful to have Birch and not the other way around. Also, stop acquiring companies you cannot manage.
