I worked at Birch Communications full-time

    Pros

    The people there are great.

    Cons

The culture needs to improve, there is a lack of cross-functional communication, and the pay is normally lower than market value.

    Advice to Management

Understand there should be one team, the Birch team. If the segregation of departments and teams would end and everyone began to communicate Birch could become more efficient and productive.

I worked at Birch Communications full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Used to be a relaxed atmosphere until everyone got promoted and then it became micro manage city

    Cons

They don't honnor what they say, they find any possible way to completely screw customers and they even do it to employees. They change the commission structure at the end of the month to unachievable goals so they don't have to pay you. They want to keep customers and laid off over 1,500 employees and reassigned the jobs to the poor people still there. No pay raise, higher goals, unfair! I'm sorry for those of you...

    Advice to Management

Turn things around with your employees. Treat them good, increase their pay by $10k at LEAST! They're doing jobs of 3 people and you're not paying them for it. Forget the goals of 300 contacted accounts, and 20+ renewals. Open your eyes! You will have better employees working for you and customers will be happier. Upper management in Denver needs to be addressed.

I worked at Birch Communications full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Pay scale and benefits were great.

    Cons

Being laid off 10 days before Christmas because of lack of work when there was no lack of work. Maybe they shouldn't be using contractors.

    Advice to Management

There is no advice to management when restructuring is in place. All upper management sees are numbers in the book.

I have been working at Birch Communications full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

We still have great people here, plenty of overtime, get exposure to a variety of technologies

    Cons

Total chaos, in constant change, steady out flow of talent so the pool of knowledge and ability to resolve issues for customers diminishes daily

    Advice to Management

Hire and pay technical talent well - haven't had a raise since starting with the company, no redundancy in network so systems keep failing instead of failing over and the customers are bleeding

I have been working at Birch Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent Pay, Coworkers are supportive and most voice managers are very kind and accepting.

    Cons

Alright, lets begin this rather long list. So, I have been with Birch for a little under a year now and was trained in voice repair. During this time, I have survived 3 lay offs that always came out of no where and with no explanation. With this third layoff, we are insanely low on representatives which has our call volumes and hold times sky rocketing but the higher ups don't seem too concerned with that for some reason....

    Advice to Management

LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES. Happy employees = Happy Customers. Proper Staff = Less hold times and lower call volumes. But frankly, you didn't care to begin with. Plan ahead and don't throw new things out at random! It doesn't work!

I worked at Birch Communications full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Only b/c of the supervisor I had at the time, the overtime was available anytime you needed it.Once that sup. left, everything went down from there.

    Cons

The supervisors and subordinates are awfully unprofessional. They are all associated on a personal level, and only look out for each other. The company is currently suffering following slamming a lot of customers, and a lawsuit has been set into place by the FCC for some odd amount of millions. Each time they make a payment, they lay off a group of people. This is right after they lie to you and tell you that your...
