I worked at Birch Family Services (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I learned a great deal about Autism. The kids are wonderful. It's an enjoyable atmosphere. Training in CPI is extremely valuable. It was somewhat of a creative position.

    Cons

I don't believe that the time clock method that they use works well. It reinforces negativity for good employees and does nothing for the chronically late. I think that the policies regarding personal time are not good.

    Advice to Management

I believe that people who work hard should be rewarded. I do not see this in regard to flexible hours, pay for overtime or release time.

I have been working at Birch Family Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Same days off with my children.

    Cons

    Work hard for less.

    Advice to Management

Give the workers more money. They work hard and are not getting treated fair. How come teachers get bonuses but TA'S dont?!

I have been working at Birch Family Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits of being a classroom staff or therapist you get ALL of the holidays and school breaks (except for the summer). The summer program is 6 weeks and then two weeks off before the fall program starts. Not a bad deal.

    Cons

Not a con- But as with working in any classroom, you have to adjust to the children and different personalities of the staff you work with. It's a pretty comfortable environment.
Not a con- Also theres no room for growth unless you gain a degree. (not unreasonable)
DO NOT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE POPULARITY HYPE- be your own person and do not follow the crowd.

I worked at Birch Family Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Met some wonderful people there. Learned a lot about this population and how to better serve their needs.

    Cons

As a mandated employee, you're unable to leave when your shift is over if the next employee does not show.

    Advice to Management

Provide better training and give management personal development hours for managers training.

I worked at Birch Family Services full-time

    Pros

Paid time off when children are not in school

    Cons

Not much room for lateral movement. No encouragement to pursue higher ambitions. There was never a raise just a small 2% bonus of your salary that is broken up in 2 separate checks.
