    Pros

    Black Box heritage and history of providing excellent customer service. 100s of well intended and hardworking employees seeking better leadership.

    Cons

    Current executives are unethical and untrustworthy. It is unusual that the biggest rats on a sinking ship are also the top leaders. It seems each hire or promotion they make is worse than the last.

    Advice to Management

    This company needs remade from the top down. I think the Board is probably the biggest problem ... old grey haired dudes that are out of touch

    Pros

    The people are what keep you there, we have amazing people on our teams, who work together well and like each other. The people at the bottom keep BB afloat.

    Cons

    Bad pay, NO RAISES, or bonuses, big lay-offs twice a year. The people that have all the say, DONT CARE OR LIKE their employees. They make stupid changes that negatively affect us, and end up costing the company money. They view suggestions as complaints. Give you a painful smile in your face, shake your hand, then go wash you off.

    Advice to Management

    Quit, so we can get people who know how to show employees appreciation, listen and learn what changes are really needed instead of wasting MONEY on things that make the job harder and waste time.

    Pros

    Not one that I can think of management is non existent if your lazy this is the company for you no one cares.

    Cons

    More then 8 years at BB and many undelivered promises company has gone from bad to how are they still in the telecom business. They have successfully managed to push anyone with talent out the door and kept all the losers expecially in operations.

    Advice to Management

    Stick to the catalog business or clean house in you're Telecom division.

    Pros

    Great technology, a lot to learn

    Cons

    If you don't work in Pittsburgh, you don't count! Especially in any of the support roles like AP, AR, Purchasing, IT etc.
    If you are still in your position outside of the corporate office, you wont be for long or you're not appreciated.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to recognize talent even outside of Pittsburgh.

    I worked at Black Box full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    The folks who work there are nice, salt of the earth people. Many have been there a long time. And they're ready to do their best for the company. They give their best everyday. There is a free lunch in the cafeteria and free parking. Health Benefits are okay. The Black Box brand still has some meaning with customers.

    Cons

    Senior management are left overs from the "bad old days" with the former CEO who was investigated and removed by the SEC and made many of the mistakes that current employees have to struggle with. Investors seem to now be wising up and punishing management by pushing down the stock price. Unfortunately, hiring decisions of senior management seem to be made more on outside company connections/benefits than on the competence of the senior manager. This is a great company with a lot of potential, but long time senior management just seems intent on killing the golden goose. I could not suggest this is a good employer to anyone .

    Advice to Management

    Respect your employees, stop looting the company, start telling the truth to investors, and invest in the company not in your own pockets.

    Pros

    Free lunch only because it's in the middle of nowhere. No restaurants near.

    Cons

    Poorly managed on every level. Only top execs get raises. Management lacks understanding and empathy. They make poor decisions and do not care what the ones doing the job advise. Breaks promises. No job security, everyone is scared of loosing their job at any time. High volume of employee turnover. A lot of gossip and backstabbing among coworkers.

    Advice to Management

    Leave.

    Pros

    There are very few "pros" about this place. There are some nice people that work there. I would say the best thing there is the free coffee that tastes terrible.

    Cons

    Where to begin? Management is terrible. HALF of the workforce has been terminated and the employees that are still there have to do twice the work as before. It has been 4 years since my last raise.

    Advice to Management

    Stop blowing smoke up your employees rear ends. Most employees are tired of all of the lies and deception. Do not rely on the "buddy system" as a basis of advancement. it would benefit the company to actually give your employees some praise every now and then. Now the Nashville office is closing, I sure hope that you still have a job once the move to Murfreesboro happens!

    Pros

    Nice people, under appreciated blue collar workers, nice products to learn

    Cons

    Too many managers who have no idea what people do. Buddy system is destroying the company. Too much management who has been there forever that are comfy and complacent and could care less about the blue collar workers who make the company run. People who manage multiple depts and make big bucks should at least know your name not to mention what jobs and roles the employees perform.

    Advice to Management

    This company is a prime example of complacency. Clear out dead beat management and bring in fresh perspectives. Recognize the blue collar people that are loyal and quit promoting and rewarding lifers with no goals, outlook and are there to just to collect a paycheck.

    Pros

    Good work/life balance. People basically friendly and helpful, but dealing with regional BBOX offices is hit or miss (cooperation, follow-ups, etc)

    Cons

    Lack of structure. Have to rely on contractors with no accountability for large projects

    Advice to Management

    Not worth typing any advice. Company is hopelessly back-peddling

    I worked at Black Box as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Free (High School quality) Lunch, free parking

    Cons

    Just about everything else - lied about contract to hire consideration; cheap on *everything*; office is a dump (unless you are in Finance or Executive Suite); Office furniture broken (broken chairs etc, new chairs for FTE only - maybe; hours are atrocious (several 4a finishes, 2:30a finishes, working during snow storms; CIO pissed when you refuse to work past 2:30a - started that day at 8:30a - no dinner break, no food supplied either); Management sub par (to say the least) all projects horribly understaffed (intentionally); it's just BAD - don't even waste your time unless you like to be abused in the workplace, lied to and then most likely underpaid.

    Advice to Management

    Retire! Seek training! Pay attention to projects from the 'get go' not just days/hours before they are due; hire staff as per how you have actually budgeted for the project. Get a life - working until 4-5a does not make you cool/smart/etc - it makes you stupid!
