    Pros

Awesome people. Awesome products. Great benefits! Just a very well rounded, fun company to work for. I love this place.

    Cons

Some of the customers aren't the best, but that's normal for retail in the ski world.

    Pros

Still a few climbers and skiers left.

Wall Street management. Fear culture. President fosters toxic behavior. Around 20 people left last month, both upper and lower management.

    Advice to Management

    Leave.

I have been working at Black Diamond full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Gear discount, dog friendly, 4 day work week.

    Cons

Lack of communication, no real training, nobody cares. Pay is well below the norm for this type of work! Manufacturing is not respected like office ppl.

    Advice to Management

Communicate! Increase pay, treat manufacturing as well as office ppl get treated

I have been working at Black Diamond full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits package, very deep discounts on gear, relaxed workplace, dog friendly.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive. For some positions there seems to be little job security. There seems to be no clear long term strategy for the company.

    Advice to Management

Employees leave because you pay them far below average market rate for similar positions. If you want to hire the talent that this company needs you have to pony up the cash to bring them here.

I have been working at Black Diamond full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There a lot of great employees who genuinely love the brand and haven't given up on it. The dress code is very casual.

    Cons

The company is trying to maintain itself by being the "cool climbing company" and it's not sustainable. They have taken away bonuses and are not competitive regarding compensation. A lot of people have left and there is little to no effort by HR to try to improve morale or employee retention.

The HR department is incredibly small and if you get a response to your e-mail there is a strong possibility it will have a slight tone of irritation or shortness in the response. Management and HR does not respond impartially to harassment concerns. They also do not follow through on investigations when situations like harassment are brought to their attention, despite documentation of the official complaint procedure in the Employee Handbook.

It is imperative during job offer negotiations to document the details in writing because there is a tendency by some managers to not follow-through on verbal agreements.

    Advice to Management

My advice to the board and executive team is to hire an outside agency to audit the Human Resources department.

Establish and share a whistleblower policy, so that there isn’t such a fear culture and ongoing issues that are never resolved or addressed.

Create a performance review timeline and make it mandatory that managers do their part in completing the review for their employees. Offer and require management training classes for anyone with a manager title.

I worked at Black Diamond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dog friendly environment, some good people still left.

    Cons

Useless HR Department. If you take a complaint about a senior manager, be prepared to be brushed off and then have a target put on your back. HR does not look out for employees best interest. They are there solely to protect the corporation.

If you still want to have time to climb or ski, what is probably bringing you here, be prepared to gain weight, sit at a desk and be so tired of climbing and the people that you want to be no where near it during your time off.

Climbers no longer run the company. The bottom line is for wall street. The majority of senior management do not climb and have no connection to the roots of BD. There is no longer respect or reverence for the history.

People are overworked and under paid. A constant trend was to fire someone and then dumped the workload onto an already existing employee without a title change or a pay increase.

    High turnover.

    Lack of mentorship.

"The beatings will continue until morale improves."

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the current CEO. He has completely sucked the soul out of that company.

I have been working at Black Diamond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is still an outdoorsy vibe to the place that they haven't managed to kill yet. Lots of climbers and skiers stoked on playing outside. My colleagues here are the best I've worked with anywhere.

    Cons

They've gone too corporate and lost their soul. We don't design for outdoor enthusiasts anymore, we're just trying to be yet another mediocre apparel company is a sea of other mediocre apparel companies.

It's impossible to get ahead in the company. Almost all management jobs are now filled with underqualified people from outside the company. Mentorship and internal promotions are firmly in the past.
