    Pros

Awesome people. Awesome products. Great benefits! Just a very well rounded, fun company to work for. I love this place.

    Cons

Some of the customers aren't the best, but that's normal for retail in the ski world.

I have been working at Black Diamond full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great community of employees
    - Passionate core for climbing/skiing
    - Dogs
    - Beer

    Cons

    - Old CEO was great, but now, upper-most management now is older and disconnected. They are just BOD proxies making short term decisions.
    - Non-climbers/skiers are making important brand and product decisions with little understanding of stakeholders.
    - Low psyche of the employees. They now just punch-in and punch-out.
    - 3 rounds of layoffs in 2 years

    Advice to Management

    1. Quit
    2. Replace yourselves with people who understand the product, customers and employees

I worked at Black Diamond (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great fellow co-workers. Having dogs in the office a welcome stress reliever.

    Cons

This may have changed by now, but a couple years ago upper management was terrible. Backhanded manuevers. Glad-handing. Heavy cronyism. BD was hiring tons of managers...not people to actually do the work. Very little promotion from within. Since I've been gone seems like people are abandoning ship at alarming rates. Pay isn't great. They try to sell you "the lifestyle," but the office is in a very undesiralbe neighborhood in SLC, which in and of itself is a "weird" at best place to live. At the end I was working 55 hour weeks to keep up and hating life. Was frustrating to see good things the brand had done getting neglected. Built a brand new state of the art ski factory in 2012...Armada was just at it buying presses, etc. like an estate sale. Sure, bad winters the last few, but BD was trying to market the ski biz like their climbing biz and too snobby to see that they are different beasts. At least Atomic is making their skis now...might not suck as bad.

    Advice to Management

You've got great people in house who could do great things for the brand. Try listening to them. You either have to heavily drink the kool-aid or mega fly under the radar to make it more than a few years there.

    Pros

High expectations, design oriented, work hard and play hard, company advocates for public lands.

    Pros

The idea of working there is great, lots of skiing and people to get outside with, Metcalf is an amazing person and very easy to talk to, plenty of gear to try and people to try it with, dawn patrols, after work climb sessions- work environment is relaxed

    Cons

Management is severely lacking, pay is subpar even for an outdoor company, not a place to move up and grow, don't expect to be challenged or given long term goals, management doesn't know what they are doing tomorrow better yet in a year or two down the road- DON'T expect to be part of a team, it's every man / women for themselves, watch your back (unless you have a good manager) - health insurance is minimal, people that work there are lifers, try to be part of the clique because if you aren't - good luck

    Advice to Management

Grow a spine and push people, most likely challenges are GOOD for people-
