I worked at Black Hills Corporation (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Black Hills provides very good benefits and is competetive with salaries/wages.

    Cons

Corporate culture is no longer a team atmosphere but has evolved into a much more acidic enviroment. Senior management appears not to care, but does promote publicly a false impression of the actual culture.

    Advice to Management

Commnicate directly with employees and do not include supervisors with you as the employees will feel pressured to express what you want to hear not what you need to hear.

I worked at Black Hills Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Black Hills is very competitive with salary/wages along with employee benefits. The company is also a growth oriented company.

    Cons

Black Hills promotes publicly a good work atmosphere, but senior managment is completely unaware of what the real atmosphere is like as they are told by HR that all is good. Prior to the tremendous growth in the last 10 years there was a good atmosphere, but the growth has changed it to a very acidic atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Don't belive the results of the speak-up survey and what HR tells you, as most employees fear sharing the truth on the speakup survey since you have to log in to take it. Also, most department heads tell the employees they want good results from the speak-up survey. So visit one-on-one with employees and you will get honest results. The previous CEO did such and he understood much better the atmosphere of the company.

I have been working at Black Hills Corporation full-time

    Pros

good benefits and positive work environment 90%

    Cons

It is still a basic call center where your availability when they need you trumps all and their requirements can change to feeling like demands very quickly regardless of past performance.

    Advice to Management

spend more time explaining procedures and expectations to the employees instead of a lazy parent mentality of; when questioned answers because I said so. So much of the day to practice that they have when questioned as to why your answer from multiple members of management is that's the way we have always done it or you have to do it this way because we can not do it any other way.
