I have been working at Black & Veatch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great workplace culture. Work/life balance is wonderful (in the office, out in the field is a different story). Competitive wages. Great place for a recent college graduate to gain a wide variety of experience in a relatively short amount of time.

    Cons

The only issue I have experienced so far is the available work. As with any engineering/construction firm, work will naturally

I worked at Black & Veatch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great company to get your feet wet. Lots of different career paths within the company. Friendly and professional environment with many networking opportunities.

    Cons

As the nunber 1 telecom company in the U.S., one would assume a depth of knowledge about Telecom. None of the professionals I worked with had any knowledge about the telecommunications. And it seemed that instead of hiring motivated and ambitious individuals for construction managers, they only hire redneck men who are good at b.s.ing, so they can appear to know construction. Very disappointing if you are interested in learning construction processes.

    Advice to Management

If not hiring for experience, hire someone for their motivation to learn and grow.

I worked at Black & Veatch

    Pros

My co workers were all very friendly and quick to help with processes or answering questions about processes. They did encourage employees to come up with ideas and ways to improve processes. The salary was very good.

    Cons

Most of the leadership was not very approachable. They would sit in their offices with their doors closed. Also, It was not very clear how to move forward in the company.

    Advice to Management

Please give the proper training when bringing on a new employee based on what position they will be doing. People want to work and do a good job for the company and it would be great to start out with the right tools from the start.
