I have been working at Black & Veatch full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. The people. I've only worked for a few firms over my 20 years, but I hear stories of other engineering firms and realize that B&V is one of the best. You'll always run into a handful of difficult people, but they're very rare at B&V and almost everyone I work with is very collaborative, supportive and has a positive outlook on our work
    2. Balanced portfolio. With the focus on Water, Energy and Telecoms, B&V has a diverse portfolio that helps us ride out the lulls in the different markets.

    Cons

In my department, work-life balance is tough. It's mostly the nature of the business as a process engineer, but it's tough to maintain a reasonable work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on robust, long-term stability, not short-term gains like some other firms have done to their detriment and that of their employees.

I have been working at Black & Veatch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great workplace culture. Work/life balance is wonderful (in the office, out in the field is a different story). Competitive wages. Great place for a recent college graduate to gain a wide variety of experience in a relatively short amount of time.

    Cons

The only issue I have experienced so far is the available work. As with any engineering/construction firm, work will naturally

I worked at Black & Veatch full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loads of sewer system engineering jobs that are repetitive, boring, unchallenging and low budget, difficult and demanding clients, over worked staff with no consistency or standardization in practices or processes

    Cons

Crappy pay, empty promises, average salaries, long list of inefficient ineffective methods, outdated old school thinking, untravelled and mediocre management with little to no incentive to change the status quo, ugly cubicle life in dead end job

    Advice to Management

Get some modern tools and techniques

I have been working at Black & Veatch full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Supportive management. BV are industry leaders in multiple fields. There is an abundance of talent in the company. Strong networking potential within the company. the company is fairly diverse, at least at mid and lower levels.

    Cons

Very little diversity in senior and executive leadership. No significant effort to integrate women into the leadership pipeline. The formal performance review and assessment system is very subjective, little opportunity to give or receive constructive feedback for developing and growing talent.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to diversify our leadership.
