I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Blackberry is still a great place to have your first career. Although it ingrains a lot of bad habits its a great learning experience for a new system administrator or technician or application developer.

    Cons

Blackberry has 0 accountability. There is no tracking of time, work, days for anyone at all.

Management is completely disconnected, there was very little understanding of what I or anyone on my team was doing day to day.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment, flexible work hours. Good team camaraderie and decent benefits / perks as an employee. Skip level meetings / lunches provided a chance to be heard at different levels.

    Cons

always expected to be on call / answering emails. Hierarchical structure in some departments can be excessive and overwhelming, especially when trying to get something approved. Off-site management is hard to communicate with.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Some very smart people still at company
    - Interesting work around public/private cloud needs to be done
    - Pay is still competitive

    Cons

    - Layoffs still happen but no longer appear in media
    - Direction changes often
    - Terrible work/life balance due to heavy workloads

    Advice to Management

Too many layers of management that don't do the real day to day work/operations. They removed all the team lead positions so most managers are at least 10+ years removed from the last time they programmed even a hello world program.

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    average benefits and compensation
    Good work life balance

    Cons

Blackberry has been cutting staff over the last several years; leaving the employee to pick up the pieces.

    Advice to Management

Now that you've divested into all these sub-products and services its time to pick one and "make Blackberry great again!"

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are some really great people that work at Blackberry, and it is easy to get along with them. The work is challenging and I have learned a number of new technologies. They have some decent benefits, including matching of RRSP contributions.

    Cons

Departments are given a low budget for handing out raises, and there is limited availability for people to move on to a higher level, so regardless of merit, you need to sell yourself to the right people to get anywhere. Also, their share purchase plan benefits the company managing the shares through excessive fees more than the employees.

    Advice to Management

Giving a 1.5 to 2% raise yearly and making it hard to advance has cost the company a lot of talent.

    Pros

Takes care the employees very well.

    Cons

Older employees do not care the company anymore.

    Advice to Management

Needed to improve Marketing Strategy, more rewards should be given to the hardworking employees and lazy employees should be warned.

    I worked at BlackBerry full-time

    Cons

At that time company was showing some signs of decline and perks were being cut left and right.
