I have been working at BlackBerry full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Extremely innovative company, fantastic technology.

    Cons

People management needs work; not competitive with other hi-tech companies. Not sure they have the right people management formula yet.

    Advice to Management

Engage a consultancy specializing in people-management; recognize top-talent and achievements often! Not everything that is valuable can be measured in "hard numbers" each quarter; sales and pipeline growth are lagging indicators - spend more time measuring how value is created. Spend more time focusing on improving employee morale. Lastly, spend on marketing; it's not the job of sales to create "awareness". The best achievements are being publicized which makes BlackBerry a "best kept secret".

I have been working at BlackBerry as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nothing that i can share.

    Cons

Dirty politics on managerial level. Instead of choosing an intern in the same role they choose people just because some other employee refered to. This is demotivating .

    Advice to Management

If you hire interns, try to retain them as you have invested them in alot. keep an eye on how people are hired in BlackBerry.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked at BlackBerry for many years and some of the pros are:
    - Great salary
    - My colleagues were a great team
    - My manager believed in me
    - a good work/lie balance

    Cons

    - Lack of interesting projects, which may sound shocking in a company like this one but my team ran out of interesting projects in the last 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to talk about failure. You can learn so much from past failed projects and it should be a constructive and open conversation, not a way to point fingers at the persons at fault.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Blackberry is still a great place to have your first career. Although it ingrains a lot of bad habits its a great learning experience for a new system administrator or technician or application developer.

    Cons

Blackberry has 0 accountability. There is no tracking of time, work, days for anyone at all.

Management is completely disconnected, there was very little understanding of what I or anyone on my team was doing day to day.
