I worked at BlackBerry full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were smart, creative and a good group to work with. The benefits were decent and comparable to the industry. Withing the work group process improvements were identified that improved cycle time and reduced costs.

    Cons

Poor leadership by management in not acknowledging changes in the business environment. Complete lack of effective decision making led to poor products.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of people doing their best. Fair pay increases. Everyone working to be successful. Very few silos or political kingdoms.

    Cons

Stressful at times. Always connected. A lot of tribal knowledge. The pace of change causes any recorded processes to become out of date quickly.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You are generally working with good people who are friendly and are willing to help you. The pay is decent and there are some training opportunities.

    Cons

Given the loss of marketshare to Apple and Android, this is a relatively risky company to work for at this time. There were recently 5000 layoffs and the general atmosphere is focused on cost cutting. Bonuses are virtually non-existent and when given are a very small portion of your salary. Another problem is the constant re-org changes that occur and the business/process changes occurring based on this. Lastly, there is an expectation that you are always available to work, including nights and weekends. Executives will send emails out at 10pm on Friday and expect an immediate response.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work environment was very relaxed (comfortable clothes were the norm). Most of the people at the company were very friendly and easy to deal with.

    Cons

The pay was a little below market value and the PM process mattered more than project outcomes. The PMO was dealing with an immature organization that was not aware of the role they needed to play in the process (The norm was the team expected PM to sit in his cube and manage the project with no input from them...It was like pulling teeth).

    Advice to Management

Process shouldn't be more important than results. Better right the ship fast.
