I worked at BlackBerry (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of support from IT team. Very easy to set up stuffs and test things.
My team was using some really cut edge framework and libraries. Overall it is a very good experience.

    I worked at BlackBerry full-time

    Pros

Good people, great executive management, excellent benefits

    Cons

in some departments it's not what you know but who you know

    Advice to Management

Executive management should randomly check Director level or below if they are doing their job properly.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very employee centric, provided numerous training opportunities all paid for and a lot of perks.

    Cons

The vision & strategy just wasn't aligned. Departments working next door from each other were doing the same thing as each other unbeknownst to one another - focused on people leadership rather than a balance between skill leadership and of course - not remaining in-tune to the market and listening to employee feedback.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the power and potential within your people. Rely on those who execute on the companies strategy to be a good gauge to guide you into future success.

I worked at BlackBerry (More than a year)

    Pros

Team members all work together closely, Cross department soccer matches kept the day to day work interesting. Best 3 years.

    Cons

Management was not involved with day to day operations and had little knowledge of the products their teams built

    Advice to Management

Learn the product, then learn your employees,

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

At a team by team level the best I have work with, in terms of working together and technical know how. Learn a lot from your peers

    Cons

Prepare for layoffs. Often unclear what direction senior management is taking the company. Directives from above not translating into results at the execution level.

I worked at BlackBerry (More than 3 years)

    Pros

gave me great experience. They took a chance on me when I moved internally into a position I was still studying.

    Cons

discovered that experience is way more important to them than a personality. I was end dated and the only one person they kept in the department was the one who didn't play well with others, but she had uber experience. I was glad I was end dated, I don't want to work for a company like that.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at more than experience when you decide who to keep when you have to downsize.
