    Pros

Icon Brand in the midst of a turnaround which can create a lot of opportunities within the company provided the company succeeds.
Being part of the turnaround, that if it succeeds, will be very rewarding both morally and maybe financially.

    Cons

    Market share continuing to slide
    Employee moral low

    Advice to Management

Get the headcount to what is need and not continue to cut more after stating that cuts are done.

    Pros

Great place as it offers flexibility and growth.

    Cons

Most jobs are in Waterloo which is not convenient if you are in the GTA.

I worked at BlackBerry as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Shared a lot of responsibilities. Actively involved in the core project. Colleagues are passionate and experienced. Actually learned practical knowledge in systems development. Clear work-life separation.

    Cons

There were changes in management all the time. There's little restrictions to working time. It's a bit tricky to learn time management here. There's been layoff of other teams which might affect people's view on its stability.

    Advice to Management

Looking forward to more flattened management styles. It's getting better but there is still much work to be done.

    Pros

Agile methodologies with builds every few days! Tons of learning experiences. Great coop program felt very close as the community was much smaller than the one in Waterloo.

    Cons

Manual testing... Not that fun but everyone has to do it eventually right? Some basic technical skills required but not enough to feel rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Be more positive! Create an environment where your full time staff feel secure... As a coop all I heard were jokes about how this week could be their last...

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very employee centric, provided numerous training opportunities all paid for and a lot of perks.

    Cons

The vision & strategy just wasn't aligned. Departments working next door from each other were doing the same thing as each other unbeknownst to one another - focused on people leadership rather than a balance between skill leadership and of course - not remaining in-tune to the market and listening to employee feedback.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the power and potential within your people. Rely on those who execute on the companies strategy to be a good gauge to guide you into future success.
