I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company is team-oriented, innovative, collaborative which makes it a great place to work. Really cares about its clients as a fiduciary. Very flat organizational structure - people work together at all levels.

    Cons

As the company is growing there are too many people involved in every decision.

    I worked at BlackRock full-time

    Pros

Strong brand name to have on your resume with a company that's been very successful in recent years.

    Cons

Poor company culture, constant shuffling of employees and management and reorganizations that don't lead to any tangible benefits and perceived lack of direction.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your employees more and build a culture that they actually want to be a part of.

    I worked at BlackRock full-time

    Pros

Brand name, compensation and benefits are decent if you stay for more than 3 years, internal mobility.

    Cons

Work life balance in some groups, mixed reviews on management, HR does a lot of industry benchmarks to be just competitive enough but not exactly best in class, lack of diversity in the top ranks, innovation is subjective and seems to be reactionary to market forces than leading.

I have been working at BlackRock (More than a year)

    Pros

Largest asset manager, attracts world class talent, growing businesses. Center of the buyside world and has relationships with all players and strong access to all markets. Great place to learn.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, large, hierarchical. Underinvested in young talent, too many marketing, strategy, sales, and operations positions. Middle level managers in these positions only slow things down.

    Advice to Management

    (1) invest heavily in advisory and consulting businesses to diversify revenue exposure (2) Get rid of obsolete / underperforming VPs and Directors in sales, strategy, operations, COO. (3) Balance the cannibalization of active products by divesting in underperforming businesses and attract talent to growth areas with higher pay

Culture has changed a bit over time...more pressure, higher expectations, less work/life balance

It's team dependent but overall a great work environment to work in if you end up on a good team with good management.

    Cons

Depending on the team, I have heard some rough stories about how people manage their teams.
