    Pros

First job out of college, great company to learn and develop your career, ample resources and technology is awesome

    Cons

Although the office space is great and only 25 miles from Philadelphia it would be great to work in a major city

    Advice to Management

Manager relationships were always engaged and promoted internal mobility; I would suggest attending as many training sessions as possible; they are extremely helpful

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

State of the Art Investment Capabilities

    Cons

    Even competent people are disposable.

    Advice to Management

Randomly churning people will cost you more in the long run.

    Pros

Most employees recieve higher pay for their positions than at other firms. The company also provides good resources for analysis and trading.

    Cons

In my opinion there is too much focus on making money and not on the fiduciary obligation. Company politics are really bad and worked long hours.

I worked at BlackRock (Less than a year)

    Pros

The business is unbelievably broad and it's easy to get exposure to a ton of different areas, even within the course of an internship, simply by meeting other people around the firm.

    Cons

Politics are killer, and so many parts of the business feel like they are slow moving and not connected to the firm's true purpose. You'll need to be really into the work to feel excited about what the firm does.

"Great, but...if you are an assistant..."

I have been working at BlackRock (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. If you are in the right team, the work/life balance and flex work is great. They invest a lot in their investment professionals

    Cons

If you are not an investment professional, don't expect them to pay attention to you. The amazing career paths they have do not apply to the assistants. You work as you are and you are happy with it. Eventually, you will hit the salary ceiling and you need to be happy with that as well since it will not change.

    Advice to Management

The culture is great, but culture and work/life balance do not make up for inflation. Although it is easier to not promote or give raises to administrative staff and force them to leave in this matter, is it really cheaper?

    I worked at BlackRock full-time

    Pros

Great leadership, able to attract best & brightest, fun to work for company where expenses are never an issue, colleagues are motivated, driven, smart and generally collaborative. Company is transparent and town halls are frequent, informative and delivered by super talented leaders. Salary and bonus are very generous.

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic and political. Career opportunities are limited in non-NY locations. Company tolerates employees who behave badly and/or are terrible managers as long as they execute against objectives. Tech leadership is largely "home-grown" which means they lack perspective on how other world-class companies evolve technology and make technology decisions (e.g. build vs. buy decisions, breakdown silo mentality). Focus on talent mobility and stretch opportunities rings a little hollow. Size and scale make it hard to innovate.

    Advice to Management

Hire an external CTO to inject a fresh perspective on technology strategy. Don't be afraid to disrupt your own organization. Continue to out-execute and out-smart competition.

Nice culture, people are always nice to each other, great career development programs, good benefit.

    Cons

Poor management in some teams, managers not competent, compensation not based on performance

    Advice to Management

More transparency in compensation and promotions. More flexible work schedules
