I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If in the right role (corporate strategy) there is a large breadth of departments and information to continuously learn.

    Cons

Every other aspect of the workplace. Highly politicized (read kiss butt to get your bonus or advancement), management is incredibly denigrating, colleagues always trying to take credit for everything they touch.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I did not find anything good.

    Cons

its waste to spend time working in this political company.only people who knows politics can grow and survive here .full of brainless and cunning people.
    HR is useless.
My suggestion to new joinees ,if you come across any problem with your Manager don't go to HR at last HR listens to Managers.
If possible i will give negative stars to this company and management.

    Advice to Management

Please respect and value people who joins with hope to learn something in the company.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Few late nights and weekends. Lower management seems to understand that people are unhappy. Most lower management seems to want to improve the toxic environment.

    Cons

It is a horrible environment. It is difficult to get work done with constant interruptions and 25% of your time spent doing paperwork. People are always in a bad mood and there is a lot of bickering and scapegoating.

    Advice to Management

treat people with more trust and pay better. Promotions are not merit based from what I've seen.

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lay offs come may be once in 3 years. For those three years you can do meaningless work and hide and get paid. But don't complain. As long as you are literally dumb and don't open the mouth you should be pretty safe here.

    Cons

It used to be a wonderful place. But sadly almost all of the remaining Barclays folks have been "phased" out. With that all creativity, comradrie, enthusiasm, fun, trust and diversity are all gone. There wouldn't be any other place where precious marketing dollars are wasted down the drain without any ROI and frankly no one cares as long as the MDs are paid fat dollars. There is incompetency, nepotism, cronyism, favoritism blatantly galore everywhere you go. You see the aggression for nothing! Mostly these are people who are hell bent on pushing other people to the brink to get themselves elevated. You would see max 20% people doing the actual jobs and the rest 80% cruising and laughing all the way to the bank on others' hard work. The morale is at an all time low. Even the heads of technology groups seem to not to change the sad state.

    Advice to Management

Top level management is super great because these extraordinary set of leaders created the world's largest asset manager. But after that begins the mediocre parade. Get rid of all the "yes man" middle level management and bring in diverse talent to fuel innovation in the latest technologies to solve meaningful problems.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time

    Pros

Best asset mgmt firm in the world. Huge firm with a lot of smart people.

    Cons

A lot of politics in the office. Cut throat culture. The firm is 80% male and lacks female. People work hard and there is hardly any work life balance. Most people are 30-50 years old and don't have families and dedicate their life and soul to finance.

I worked at BlackRock as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good compensation, convenient location. I'm sorry that nothing else positive comes to mind but I have to write a twenty word minimum.

    Cons

BlackRock is constantly hiring because no one with marketable skills stays longer than a year or two. The culture is completely toxic. BlackRock has grown through mergers much too fast without paying any attention to culture and positive assimilation of acquired populations, so the factional infighting and blame-shifting is the worst I have ever seen. This place is just one giant back-stabbing, mud-slinging, food fight all the time. Stay far, far away if you are a creative, innovative, results-oriented person who likes to get things done. Deeply ingrown old-timers here make careers out of being an obstacle to block change to protect their own jobs - and it works.

    Advice to Management

It's time to make some painful decisions about finishing functional consolidation and eliminating dysfunctional legacy populations that are working against the organization's goals.

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, smart people, innovative for a financial company

    Cons

Not a meritocracy. White males frequently promoted over higher achieving women and minorities- just look at senior leadership! Discrimination is rampant, and people spend more time gossiping than doing work.

    Advice to Management

Promote smart people who work hard.

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Smart people, but too conservative to really be a thought leader now.

    Cons

No longer innovating, pushing active management junk on the market, trying to be everything to every client and at the same time paying literally no attention to the people that help make the business worth purchasing in the first place. If you stay there, you deserve each other.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves. No one like you.

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Brand, brand, brand...and well, brand.

    Cons

Everything else...firm has very generic products that it touts as 'unique', the promotion process is based on weekend golf trips, and no real clear career path, mostly dogmatic middle management and quite frankly, your skills atrophy

    Advice to Management

Quit promoting based on who you hang out with outside of work or who reminds you of you, look at actual delivery (fairly simple concept right?), and don't assume facetime = productivity...the more senior the less production, generally speaking anything VP onwards indicates nothing
