I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company and great solutions to offer investors.

    Cons

Based on high cost of living in SF, I would have to say that compensation was fair based other financial firms in SF

    Advice to Management

Management team is strong however my first line manager lacked the leadership qualities a team needs to foster growth within

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

World class analytics and market knowledge, ability to rise quickly and gain lots of responsibility and rub shoulders with very senior people and C suite of clients much sooner than other companies, many programs intended for career development and resources to help with work life balance

    Cons

Light on comp relative to competitors, which is a trade off of perceived prestige...can be difficult to navigate large organization and extra red tape preventing nimble execution -- a lot is regulatory based but much is simply size and structure

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Senior management made great efforts to remain transparent in a sensitive and confidential environment. Each business unit seems to have some autonomy that makes certain roles more engaging.

    Cons

As the company continues to grow, the bureaucracy and administrative demands start to add up. Appears to be moving towards the expected "political" infighting standard within the financial world.

    Advice to Management

Continue to share rationale behind strategy and state of the company, as applicable.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Culture and Principles of the firm
    Respects and values employees
Opportunities to grow and develop career
    Great financial benefits like retirement
    My line of management

    Cons

Not much I can think off but feel that some groups might be bureaucratic. I may be completely wrong but have heard a few employees complain about that in their groups.

    Advice to Management

A lot of money is spent on travel for senior management, if at least 10% of that is spent on analysts as bonus, they would be super happy and excited and motivated to continue to work in Blackrock.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Best place for young people. It's a growing firm and requires you to polish your skills all the time! You need to almost learn every day something to keep up.

    Cons

Not good if you want a 9-5 job. It's not the kind of job where as time goes on you'll get more experience. Need to get ready for new challenges everyday.

    Advice to Management

Expect to see more collaboration among research teams. Expect to see better in-house technology support on big data side.
