    Pros

The mission is to make the world a better place. What better source of satisfaction can there be? The people here are wonderful and really set you up for success. Our customers are nonprofit organizations, so knowing that what you do helps so many causes in the world is a great feeling! Working so close to the beach isn't a bad thing at all either!
I have been w Blackbaud for 10 months and don't regret my decision at all.

    Cons

Although I love the location (Charleston, SC) there are not many other software companies in the area for the company to pull from, but the relocation benefits are very generous so that typically is enough to still find great talent from across the US.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! I'm thrilled to have joined such a great team!

    Pros

It's way to serve others, yet the compensation level is way above what nonprofits typically pay. Great environment, very talented and friendly people, and Charleston is an amazing city. You get to interact with nonprofits from all over the world and get some clues as to their mission and how you can support that in the software.

    Cons

As stated elsewhere, Charleston doesn't have a lot of software companies in the area, so make sure you're committed before you relocate. My manager could be a bit more visible to our team, but that's maybe just more of a function of how an individual operates than a group. On the other hand, I get left alone to do what I know needs to be done.

    Advice to Management

Marc's gone a long way to break down the silos between divisions, but there's still work to do there.

    Pros

Location - Charleston, SC is one of the coolest place to live in the country. Charming historic downtown and marvelous beaches and rivers as well. Nice mild year round temperature too. The company - at least the software department - is filled with very bright young people. Most of the management is pretty cool - down to earth, competent and fair. If you're idealistic, you can get a little bit of a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that your clients are non-profit agencies. Nice facilities and good work environment. Management expects results - so if you're a slacker you won't last long, but on the flip side, almost all of your coworkers are reliable and competent.

    Cons

If you're not working at Blackbaud, there aren't many other employment options in the area. Pay is average at best. Merit increases only keep up with inflation. Only promotions get you a significant increase.

    Advice to Management

    Work on the merit increases.

    Pros

    Great people
    Good pay
    Room for growth
    Transparency
    Great facilities

I look forward to going to work everyday at Blackbaud. In Charleston there is not a better place to be as a recent graduate

    Cons

Honestly I can not find a real "con" of working for Blackbaud. I wish they would subsidize the lunchroom cost and it is not really all that bad.

    Advice to Management

Management does a very good job of leading. They provide a framework that gives everyone the opportunity to do well

    Pros

Culture is great. If you are hard worker and get your job done, Blackbaud will work to keep you happy and moving up.

    Cons

There are definite instances of favorite and non-favorite employees. If you end up in the latter group you can really get run over as an employee.

    Pros

Successful growing company that serves the nonprofit sector. Lot's of growth potential for those that are bright and willing to drive change.

    Cons

The company can be slow to move/react sometimes. Vending machines are too expensive. Needs more soft seating in the Charleston office.

    Advice to Management

The company is well run and many of the leaders are able to make bold decisions and drive change...we need more those people throughout the company.

    Pros

    - Management recognizes talent and rewards it appropriately with lots of awards (with monetary bonuses) handed out regurlay to top-performing developers
    - The work is usually fun and interesting with lots of challenges
    - Charleston is an amazing city

    Cons

    - Work can be stressful, but that's the nature of the industry
    - Management changes A LOT with developers getting shuffled to other teams regularly
    - Cubicle life isn't for everyone

    Advice to Management

Strive to keep some sense of stability for your employees; constant shuffling of developers causes unrest and a skepticism towards management.

I have been working at Blackbaud full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great people
    Great industry
A lot of the staff truly cares and wants to improve products and services

    Cons

The biggest con i can think of is that it's such a large company that the pace of change can be tediously slow, but honestly, this is not the first company i've worked for, but it is definitely the best i've worked for.

    Advice to Management

i know software development takes time, but we have to pick up the pace. our products are already "behind the times" and it feels like instead of getting ahead of the curve we're playing catch-up to get to where the rest of the software industry was yesterday.
