A lot of potential to be a great place to work

Jul 6, 2020 - Sales in Austin, TX

    Pros

Getting to work with clients who are truly making the world a better place, fair pay, and flexible options to work in-office or remote.

    Cons

Lack of growth opportunities outside of Charleston. There have even been situations where under-performing employees have been promoted over others simply because they live in Charleston. Acquired companies are forced into changing all operations to align with Blackbaud's processes.

    Pros

The new office headquarters is very nice. Standard benefits for health insurance, time off.

    Cons

Blackbaud used to be a solid company with lots of potential for employees and investors. It was the thought leader in the nonprofit space, and customers benefited from that. That time has passed. Don't be fooled by the nice office and living in Charleston. Management no longer supports remote workers so you have to move to Charleston. You'll regret moving your family here while you are miserable at this company. There are not a lot of other jobs in Charleston. So you will be stuck. At Blackbaud, politics win not the best ideas. They promote people to jobs that didn't even have a posting. Its all how well you play the game. I have never seen a company that has so much bureaucracy. Living in Charleston is expensive, however the salaries don't align to the cost of living. Imagine being at a customer conference when one of the executives is bragging about his new wine suitcase and wine cellar in his new house that cost more money then any of you make in a year. You will go backwards in your career if you work here. There is zero professional development. And you won't learn anything new or be inspired because you wont work for smart people. Many of the senior managers are control freaks and have only worked at Blackbaud (given the lack of jobs in Charleston). So they are ignorant to how great tech companies actually run. They are fearful of change and view it as giving up control of power. Lots of vision at the company, but they can't execute. Watch the stock price decline.

Lack of support (job security and role specific), dated tech, dupe customers

Jan 16, 2021 - Account Executive in Charleston, SC

    Pros

    - Name recognition and respect in the Charleston community - Generally good mission to help non-profits succeed and work toward social good

    Cons

    - lack of job security even though the company seems secure (ex: two layoff rounds within last year, data breach that hurt countless customers and lack of transparency with customers about breach) - dated tech that isn’t worth the price jump for customers however sales is expected to push customers to upgrade - lack of support for sales. Managers haven’t all been in the role before so unable to truly help sell or understand how to close deals start to finish - serious lack of diversity within sales. Very few women or non-white AEs and when bringing this up to management I was essentially ignored. This was a tipping point for me in leaving in pursuit of a more inclusive company that would properly train employees and help them grow rather than an individualized sink or swim mentality. - company claims to want to work as one team, however true support from teammates and management is lacking

Run As Fast As You Can In The Opposite Direction!

    Pros

There are no pros to Blackbaud, oh, excuse me "blackbaud". See how edgy and nouveau chic they are? They didn't capitalize their name. I know, right??

    Cons

Software relegated to the 1990's. Their flagship software, The Raiser's Edge, is so full of bugs it's almost like the building (including the cafeteria) and its roach problems. There is minimal effort to test anything new with The Raiser's Edge. Office 2010 completely took 'blackbaud' by surprise. They had NO IDEA it wasn't compatible with their software, and it only became partially compatible in 2012!!!! They had NO IDEA because they didn't bother to test it in beta. They are coasting along because, really, they don't have to improve their software. Who else will so-call nonprofits turn to? They're buying up all the competition. The last update I had the pleasure of living through was rolled out to much fanfare, and a patch had to be created the same freakin' day. This may or may not be related to the fact they let their employees drink alcohol on the job...it used to be every other Friday, but maybe it's just every day now? Oh, and the managers are a joke. The bimbow I had didn't even know how to use The Raiser's Edge, yet she was chosen to be my supervisor? And she had the personality of cobra snake...just like most of the other ones. You could get a good review if you sucked up and went out to the bars (sensing a theme yet?) in Charleston with the managers. They love to choose brown nosers to move up. If that's your gig, then you'll fit right in. Otherwise, stay away.

    Nice place to work

Jan 12, 2021 - Senior Software Engineer in Charleston, SC

    Pros

Great team atmosphere and career growth options. Company responds well to employee concerns. Nice building software for non profits. Great benefits.

    Cons

Pay is competitive for Charleston but not nationally. Some teams/products are clearly treated with higher priority than others.
