I have been working at Blackhawk Network full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Blackhawk is a growing company with tons of tremendous diverse talent. The staff has been very helpful over the first 90 days and I have the pleasure of working on a highly functional scrum team. It has great leadership as well making it a fun place to work.

    Cons

Lots of acquisitions over the past couple of years will eventually mean consolidation.

    Advice to Management

Be as transparent as possible with regards to consolidation plans and the implications it will have on employees. Consider allowing good employees the opportunity to work remotely after consolidation.

    Pros

Blackhawk is filled with passionate people. This is evident by the dedicated team of professionals that work in the Phoenix, Arizona location. They come to work everyday focused on helping Blackhawk deliver products and services to our customers.

    Cons

Still working through some growing pains. Some decisions might be influenced by the past instead of what will benefit the company by looking forward.

    Advice to Management

Continue to embrace new ideas and be brave at leading change.

I worked at Blackhawk Network full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible on time off and vacation but other than that, I cannot think of anything else.

    Cons

This company is filled with the most inadequate level of intelligence. They have no standard of who they hire or promote to the executive team because they are Constantly undergoing hiring freezes, lay offs, budget cuts. They cannot seem to get their revenue high enough for 3 months at a time. Departments continuously have their budgets cuts, HR is absolutely a nightmare to work with, technology and the employees in Engineering are subpar. The pay is low for the area and industry and the company sticks within the status promote average or below average skill set. Very few at Blackhawk are forward thinking or helpful - in fact I am amazed how some people are still employed at this place (but not really).

    Advice to Management

Hire people who know how to run a company. Stop being cheap, and stop staying in your corporate bubble of mediocrity.

I have been working at Blackhawk Network full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good work life balance
    Close to BART
    Free coffee
    Plenty of conference rooms
    Random food catering
    Decent benefits
    Parking
    Good location

    Cons

The reviews you're seeing are entirely embellished. The company has an ongoing initiative begging its employees to leave positive reviews and I'm sure all the pawns and executive team obliged. Blackhawk is painstakingly unstructured, chaotic, unfocused and unreasonably top heavy with executives and directors. It's constantly changing (which is normally good) but changing in a way where nothing ever gets done. Goals are considered a formality that are not meant to be completed. I would describe most department heads as self-involved, self-interested and unsupportive of their subordinates. Peers and departments are unhealthily competitive with each other resulting in infinite silos. Don't work here. Save yourself. You'll want to leave after a couple of months and will have a hard time explaining to prospective employers why you want to leave.

The senior executive team can be described as cold, self-centered and will never be caught mingling with the little people. The CEO's personal shopper and stylist gets more face time than any of the employees that work at her company.

Want to feel the sweet bubbles of anxiety before going to work and have no idea what (guaranteed) stink bomb you'll face with as soon as you get to your desk? This place is for you.

I am highly accomplished and confident with my skills. Yet this has been the worst company I have ever worked for so far.

    Advice to Management

Have some humanity. Support your employees. There are far more rewarding things than kissing up to your VP and hoping they acknowledge your existence.
