    Pros

great working environment, great people to work with, and nice opportunities to get exposed to different kinds of people.

    Cons

does not pay enough, sometimes there are not enough customers, but that does not undermine the fact that blacks photography is a great company.

    Advice to Management

I would definitely advice the management to hire more people, as the company is on its rise and could use the extra labor. great bosses.

I worked at Blacks Photography full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company with a long history and a family atmosphere. Small corporate level structure allowing you to get to know all aspects of the business and make an impact where you can.

    Cons

Photography industry is very challenged in light of current technologies. Very difficult retail sector to be in, in questionable economic times. Very dependent on the excellent execution of web capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Don't loose control of production or quality assurance. The company relies on putting out an excellent quality product, and if that is out of your hands there is no coming back.

    Pros

Love working one on one with clients and their special memories. If you're a people person, this job is amazing

    Cons

Stressful work loads. Old machines with frequent breakdowns. Staff are expected to know cell phones, cell phone plans, aspect ratio for photographs, cameras and accessories, and memorable gift items. Product knowledge is intense and essential

    Advice to Management

Try and keep it fun for your employees. This job can take out a lot on a person emotionally.

I worked at Blacks Photography part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great phone plan when it was a part of TELUS, my co-workers were also outstanding individuals. Immediate manager while I was at the retail level did a great job of empowering employees with administrative tasks to bolster their skill-set.

    Cons

I understand a re-brand of the company was needed and necessary, but the millions spent on a new website and tens of millions more spent on store renovations felt like solutions looking for a problem. Solutions that cost the company a ridiculous amount of money. Solutions that made a YOY increase in revenue irrelevant because they kept the company in the red unnecessarily.

    Advice to Management

Not that it matters now, but- while it's okay to make improvements to the web face and to the stores themselves, making costly overhauls to the site and to the stores while expecting a massive increase in revenue to cover the costs of it was asinine. Just... don't do that.

    Pros

Comission structure was done well but manager bonus was canculated without using fair share. Managers were given stretch targets based on success while struggling managers targets were dropped

    Cons

Organizational issues in regards to communication with the field. Company took on too many projects which came at the expense of the retail stores

    Pros

Best place to print your photos and other digital arts. You can do this at home or in the store.

    Cons

The place is not in business anymore which means customers need to find another option to print their photos.
