I worked at Blanc & Otus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really tried to think of some, but there are none.

    Cons

Always dead silent, no culture, tries to sell soft benefits such as WFH Friday's and work closely with CEO (who doesn't care about employees). No promotions or raises given at all. Senior management doesn't communicate changes at all and are not transparent. There is a reason why the turnover is extremely high and someone quits every month.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees more, stop micro-managing and give people meaningful work, effectively communicate changes going on in the office and put more emphasis for caring for employees.

    Cons

Bad culture, condescending language, micro-managing, Striving for "perfect" with no clear definition

I worked at Blanc & Otus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very detail-orientated agency with strict review processes and high expectations - forces you to learn quickly on the job and sets up a strong foundation for a career in PR. Great client roster that is continually growing and marquee accounts that are great to get experience working on.

    Cons

Highly political - part of larger H&K and WPP network which equates to slow promotions, while they're working to deliver decent 'soft' benefits (i.e. work from home days, day off for your birthday, snacks, etc.), they are falling behind with salaries, bonuses and promotion opportunities. Toxic work environment with a lot of office gossip, condescending behavior, unfriendly competitiveness and out of touch senior management. Long hours, low pay and promotions not based on merit. Tend to micromanage mid-level and entry-level employees stunting opportunities for growth and forward momentum. A lot of time spent reporting, forecasting, etc. - very little time spent delivering real results.

    Pros

    great clients, stable, always growing

    Cons

office culture, overworked, no work/life balance, slow promotions and raises, no bonuses

    Advice to Management

focus on current employees and their happiness over winning new clients. new clients won't be happy if their account teams are stretched too thin

  8. "Really nice people but competitive environment, too focused on process & not on results"

I worked at Blanc & Otus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great at teaching the basics; very detail oriented so you learn how to have eagle eyes and do things right; everyone is friendly and caring, funny

    Cons

Air of mistrust, tons of micromanaging, super competitive environment, no training, morale is mediocre, agency is pretty risk adverse, lots of talk about "messaging and positioning" but when it comes to driving BIG results, the agency lacks. There's no drive to network in the industry.

    Advice to Management

TRUST your employees to do a good job; give them room to grow; don't constantly ask to see everything they do, let them MANAGE projects - even at the more junior level. Take more risks, be creative, and don't underestimate the power of BIG media hits.

I have been working at Blanc & Otus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people and opportunities to advance your career. The team here is very supportive of creative and proactive thinking. If you have a particular passion this is a place where you can go for it.

    Cons

Being boutique Blanc and Otus is pretty nimble, but sometimes being part of a larger organization can make decision making slower

    Pros

Unlike sister agency, H&K, B&O isnt a stuffy place to work. There were a few people who would make you feel welcomed and wanted, but many of them had left. It is an agency that invests in training. Met some of the most colorful characters in the PR world.

    Cons

Extremely political especially with new management team. Lots of favoritism and people were promoted when they don't really deserve it. Agency had lost its culture with the new management in place. High turnover at the mid-level. Great place to start one's career if you know how to play the political game... and if you can continue playing that game, you are guaranteed quick promotions.

    Advice to Management

CEO, while is an extremely nice guy, needs to be more hands on what's going on in each office rather than just passing the buck down to the GM and/or VPs.
