I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Blizzard is a truly special place to work. I've worked at companies large and small, and Blizzard is by far the best of them all. As a life-long Blizzard fan, walking through the concept art covered walls doesn't get old. Depending on your team, there's a lot of flexibility. If you have down time, no one is going to raise an eyebrow at you playing a game, browsing the web, or taking care of some personal... business. The people are exceptionally nice. There are lots of groups for you to find your niche, and I've found it's easy for co-workers to become good friends. The free games are nice. Work events are usually a lot of fun. It can take some personal pushing, but you can really learn and grow to advance your career here. The company values are regularly referenced and acted upon.

    Cons

Like with much of the gaming industry, the compensation is really low. When I eventually hang up my sword and shield, it will be to pursue a better salary. The Irvine and Austin areas are exceptionally expensive, and Blizzard seems unwilling to compete against tech company salaries. We're getting kicked in the teeth by the press and on social media.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Warm and inviting culture that celebrates your inner geek-- whether that is gaming, role-playing, movies, comics, you name it. Blizzard offers many avenues to level up your skills at Blizzard U. They frequently bring in guest lecturers and have classes in art, programming, and also classes in leadership and management. Fellow colleagues are the best in the world at their craft. I believe that everyone... at Blizzard is really trying to make the best game possible for our players. On development teams, there is a good work-life balance and it's rare in the past few years that there is a long run of overtime work.

Rent in Irvine can be high and options for a social scene can be limited compared to Los Angeles. Just something to consider.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone at Blizzard is phenomenal at their job. There is an uncommon amount of genuinely nice people working at Blizzard. Job security (despite the recent large layoffs) is industry-superior, especially within Blizzard's game teams. Blizzard work culture is generally very healthy. Embracing your inner geek is emphasized around all parts of the org through office decoration and personal interactions. Typically very... modest and reasonable people in leadership roles. Anyone that isn't a right fit for Blizzard is detected quickly and typically doesn't last long. There is pride and passion in everyone that works here, and it shows. Everyone is genuinely interested in your career goals, and it's easy to make friends interested in helping you reach them. Anything/everything you do has the capability to reach millions of enthralled players & fans. Austin office has extremely familial, laid-back culture, is extremely productive, and very low drama. If you are a Blizzard fan, HQ is paradise.

    Cons

Pay rate is not competitive with the rest of the industry and they do not offer stock options. Unless you're senior-level, Irvine is nearly impossible to live in on Blizzard salary, especially if you have pets, a spouse, children, a dislike of roommates, and/or dreams of owning property. As a large org, change is slow no matter the scale. If you're the kind of person that likes to come in and stir things up, you'll... meet a brick wall. As a large org, parts of the company simply don't talk with one another, creating silos and occasional parallel development. Blizzard's great at making games, but not great at the business of games, so support orgs (marketing, publishing, esports) are chaotic and fundamentally unstable. Tenured, senior staff (15+ years) are phenomenally difficult to terminate despite lack in performance or disruption to team dynamics. It IS NOT the same Blizzard as 20+ years ago -- but that's okay.

    Advice to Management

JAB, thus far, shows amazing potential as Blizzard's president. The initiative to refocus the company on game development (while heart-breakingly painful) is a smart decision. Promote from within on Director-level roles to avoid past leadership mistakes made in support departments (outsider comes in, replicates what they did at their last company, creates tornadoes that wreak havoc, leaves company, rinse &... repeat). Invest more into distributed development to increase productivity and lower employee costs (anywhere else is cheaper to have employees than SoCal). Please retain the heart of the company that Mike Morhaime so relentlessly fostered as we go forward and continue to make epic entertainment.

I worked at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

As many other reviews have stated - the culture. The culture and the people at Blizzard are fantastic, and it shows with their customer interactions. Having an on-site gym is a plus. You can definitely 'embrace your inner geek' - the dress code is casual and you are encouraged to be passionate about games and e-sports.

    Cons

Compensation is not competitive for the type and amount of work done, especially in the upper tiers of CS. Promotions out of CS are difficult at best, especially if you want to stay in the Austin area. Otherwise you need to move to Irvine, which is prohibitively expensive. The competition is fierce regardless. Call center scheduling is not going to be optimal for everyone. Unless you can directly swap with... someone, you will be locked in to your schedule for a year, until it comes time to shake things up again.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Awesome environment, awesome tools, awesome people. Can't overstate the power of working on the games that you grew up playing.

    Cons

Most technical jobs are only in Austin and Irvine (in the US)

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Work on amazing games! * The values are well defined and followed through the company. They're descriptive as opposed to prescribed. * The fans have so many heart felt stories. * Opportunities to have impact on games, broadcast, community, etc...

    Cons

    * Sometimes it can be difficult to see how your work impacts games (on non game teams roles). * Irvine is very expensive and gaming industry salaries are lower than the rest of the tech industry.

    Advice to Management

Bring more collaboration and respect throughout the company. One Blizzard is probably the one value needs work.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people, generally, are awesome. It's a collaborative, geeky, fun, environment where shared passions and a relaxed vibe contribute to making you feel at home and at ease. Great healthcare. Average 401(k). Awesome non-traditional benefits, like an on-campus Boot Camp exercise program, yoga, sword fighting, chiropractor, sweet events (champagne toasts, trips to Vegas, celebrations, company outings, etc).... There's likely even more I'm not aware of. Nice office environment. Modern (though a little cramped for some teams). Rewarding work.

    Cons

Irvine is expensive. Cronyism rampant at upper echelons of management. Predominantly male, and despite a diversity program to change that it's definitely harder for women at Blizzard (women are "bossy" while men are "assertive"). There's also a distinct avoidance of confrontation from some weaker middle management, so some behavior is ignored for the sake of not rocking the boat or having to have a difficult... conversation. That's not to say it's vitriolic, just that when things do go wrong (as of course they will at any company), it feels like it's swept under the rug rather than addressed. Labyrinthine approval process. Everyone is a stakeholder. Slow. Politics, again at upper management.

    Pros

Terrific culture. Company really lives by its core values. People generally love working here and are passionate about doing right by fans and the community. Lots of room for future growth.

    Cons

Can take quite a bit of time for decisions to get made as many people are involved. Irvine can be an expensive place to live and very different from city life.

    Pros

The title says it all, our company is dedicated not only to creating epic entertainment experiences, but also to creating an environment that the employees love to work in. It's an awesome company with a multitude of perks, benefits, and company events. Most importantly though, your coworkers are awesome and your room to grow here is limitless. Our CEO and executive team is awesome and really does an amazing job to... work for both us as employees and our fans and players.

    Cons

Irvine can be a bit dull at times, and the pay might not be as comparable to other companies in Orange County cost of living wise. However, you don't have to live in Irvine, and I feel adequately compensated.

    Advice to Management

Continue to do what you're doing! It's working well and there's no reason to change it up!

    Cons

It is not all fun and games. There are still times when it is work. Irvine is pricey.

    Advice to Management

Make more and better great games.
