I worked at Blockbuster part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun environment, decent training, simple job. Scheduling is never too difficult, leniency is provided if you have another job or other obligations like school. Nice employees. Good people.

    Cons

Customers can be tough, inventory issues, changing of the guards can undermine team cohesiveness. Sometimes there aren't enough shifts available. High turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Be kinder to your employees and also more clear on expectations., but don't fraternize with them. Favoritism is also uncalled for. Everyone should be treated equally.

I have been working at Blockbuster full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great friends, great customers. I loved the atmosphere and talking about movies and games all day.

    Cons

You can't please everyone all the time so you do your best and give a smile.

    Advice to Management

Management has always been great to me.

I worked at Blockbuster part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work at Blockbuster are the early releases on movies and games so you can review them, the 20% employee discount, and the flexible scheduling.

    Cons

You had to sell promotions every shift and not have any customer credits or you would likely be written up. The company pretty much died because people are using online streaming now and it didn't keep up. Not to mention Redbox and Netflix had better business models.

    Advice to Management

Do not run the company the way corporate management ran it.

I worked at Blockbuster part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent hours motivated by sales goals, mostly cool people to work with, free rentals on video games and movies, easy to move up.

    Cons

District managers are out of touch with entry level employees, business plan caused stores to close and forced employees to transfer around the area multiple times.

    Advice to Management

Reduce cost of rentals, start a 9.99 bundle with 3 movies, a 2 liter of soda, and popcorn.

I have been working at Blockbuster part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy job, generally good customers, low pressure. If your looking for your first job, this one isn't bad at all. Most of the time is either spent helping customers or working on returns and cleaning the store. It's a low pressure job, with some sales goals.

    Cons

New focus every month as the company attempts to turn its failing business model around. No raises. Minimum pay. District and Regional managers tend to be very bad. One of my store managers was fire while working there for a very small policy violation (He was really fired because he was at the company for far too long, and had a pay rate 50% higher then a fresh manager).

    Advice to Management

    Close down already?

    Pros

The staff, but it's really store dependent

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Should have grown with the times

I have been working at Blockbuster part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to rent movies and games for free was always nice. Some discounts made games and movies more affordable.

    Cons

Everything else was wrong with this place. The hours were ridiculous and the holidays were unacceptable. Terrible business strategies in terms of forced selling. Unhappy customers from confusing policies.

    Advice to Management

    Needed a better HR department

I worked at Blockbuster part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You're supposed to be knowledgeable about movies, so Blockbuster gives you a bunch of free rentals per week. Depending on location/management, it is a relatively stress-free environment to work in

    Cons

Upper management makes weird decisions that you have to deal with when the customers come in and complain. A lot of transient workers pass through who don't seem to care about anything.

    Advice to Management

Stick to a tighter corporate strategy and stop faffing around on decisions.
