  1. "Great"

    Pros

Free videos we had that were 2 weeks before any customers got them. Also, we used to have a great rewards program.

    Cons

The cleanup process was long. Customers used to leave videos all over the store in different sections and categories.

    Advice to Management

Management used to give free videos to people who we knew either kept or sold videos that we lent them. The notes section was very helpful.

    I worked at Blockbuster full-time

    Pros

Although, no longer open, I liked working for Blockbuster. I started out as a cashier/associate and was made a shift lead within six months or so. I got to run the store on my own often which was challenging and fulfilling.

    Cons

Pay was not great. Also, management sometimes did not feel like a team. There was often pressure on you to give customers what they wanted even when they were in the wrong or corporate would not support your actions, but that is retail.

    Advice to Management

My manager was great about having the schedule done early for following week(s) since our lives revolved around it and I always really appreciated that.

    Pros

We were given the opportunity to watch Free Movie and as well as get free Game Rentals. The training was ok, however typically expected to overcome adversity without proper training.

    Cons

We were required to work very Long hours and did not receive comparable pay, The training was not good at all, I would say it was actually Poor training, and their programs were way Outdated.

I worked at Blockbuster full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was paid well and really liked most of the people I worked with the first time around (from 2003 - 2006). Managing the games marketing activities for over 4,000 stores (when I started in 2003) was a huge challenge, but it was always fun.

    Cons

It's pretty well known that sr leadership at the company ignored the explosion of Netflix's physical business and growing digital business. I know for a fact that Blockbuster could have bought Netflix for less than a billion dollars at one point and leadership didn't do it (despite the fact that everyone from VP's on down were urging them to do it). Also, during my second tour with the company in 2012, it was a far different experience. Simply put, there were still good people (though fewer of them) and the leadership team decided that instilling fear into the company culture was the right way to go.

    Advice to Management

Invent a time machine, go back in time, and unscrew every bad decision they made regarding subscriptions and digital.

    Pros

Free rentals every week. Discount on retail. Get to talk about movies with many different people.

    Cons

Company changed it's policies too often and became very confusing for the employees and customers. No respect from corporate. No benefits.
