I worked at Blood Systems Research Institute

    Pros

Most colleagues are cordial. Weekly presentations are interesting, lets you have a sense of what others are working on. Monthly happy hours. Facilities and equipment are adequate.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities. Select people are a nightmare to work with. Layout of desk spaces and environmental ambiance makes the place quite soul-sucking.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Blood Systems Research Institute full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible work environment, the ability to choose your own research topics (to a point), interesting research that leads to policy change

    Cons

Low pay, limited benefits, financial belt tightening has limited travel to scientific meetings for lower level staff

    Advice to Management

Treat your current scientists like you want them to stay around, realize we live in San Francisco and adjust pay scale accordingly, have a pathway to advancement clearly outlined
