I worked at Bloom Energy as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Orderly, clean, interesting. It's kind of like dream car garage but in a manufacturing plant making fuel cells. Management is approachable, teamwork and 5S like crazy - but makes it a good place to work.

    Cons

Some contractors get converted but not all, but I'm told you can come back. Shift hours take some getting used to.

    Advice to Management

More feedback on the company and more conversions

I worked at Bloom Energy as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cool product. Some legitimate excitement for what this really can become in terms of a game changer worldwide, and especially in nations that suffer with high levels of poverty.

    Cons

Pay seemed to be below industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Stabilize. Add some learning opportunities and a "fun"' aspect to the environment.

I worked at Bloom Energy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There is a clear focus and alignment on mission of providing clean affordable electricity to everyone. This is why there are many long term employees in a business that requires stamina for success. The team has outstanding people working on leading edge technology so there is intrinsic satisfaction

    Cons

Being a pre-IPO hardware company, it cannot afford to provide the salary and benefits that one would get at a Google or Facebook or even Apple. The culture is biased towards the power base being in Engineering to the potential detriment of other functions

    Advice to Management

Focus on building a leadership structure where all functions have an equal seat at the table. Continue to push for extraordinary results and solving big challenges

I have been working at Bloom Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The team has a small group of wide ranging engineering specialists

Excellent team for any type of fit of person that isn't boring

When you get this job, you really have to prove you know your stuff and earn it

Potential for growth in the company

    Cons

The technology being utilized for the types of operations that RMCC oversees is a little behind in years and weak in processing power, which leads to sometimes slow response times

The team is rather small in ratio to the number of clients and sites we monitor

Some of the tools we use are glitchy/buggy

    Advice to Management

Look into upgrading the equipment in the main room such that faster response times aren't a liability on our end!

I have been working at Bloom Energy full-time

    Pros

Bloom's culture is a mix of the "start-up", hustle and bustle mentality and the busy, but exciting, Silicon Valley work ethic. It is very challenging though very rewarding I feel. It is hard work but an enormous amount of progress is noticeable every day in the plant. Therefore, the amount of experience you get from working here is counted in dog years. The DE plant is only about 3 years old so almost everyone in the facility is "new" to the company.

Since it still lingers in this start-up mentality, you also don't have a set role. They can, and will, ask you to do all kinds of things to help, wherever they need resources. This can be refreshing and interesting but means you have to wear a lot of hats sometimes. Also, there is a lot of opportunity for recognition and opportunities to move up. If you are good, you will quickly gain a lot of respect in this company. In addition, you interact with higher level engineers and managers a lot in this company allowing for tremendous growth on your resume.

In summary, tough, hard work, and stressful but fun/fresh, rewarding, and never a dull moment.

    Cons

You must be tough and resilient to work here. Since there is still the start up mentality, the environment is not as hospitable as well-developed companies. The attitude is not so much "for the employee" but "for the company's mission" much like a patriotic feeling for your country. This isn't a bad thing, just something you need to prepare for as a feeling you need to be able to share.

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation to the hard working engineering level and technician level employees. Sometimes the start-up mentality of "tough love" isn't applicable. Also, the communication and celebration of major company achievements and milestones is poor because there is no time to relax.

    Pros

Great customers, repeat customers, product is real and shipping and works, short time between idea for how to solve a problem until you can test and ship it. Can use your technical skills to the fullest every day.

    Cons

Management decisions regarding orgainization are more geared to who has been there the longest instead of who is more competent. If you are exceptionally talented, management won't totally ignore you, but if you are a regular engineer, you've got to be a friend of the department head to have influence and be listened to. Difficult to move between divisions.

    Advice to Management

Close the loop on costs vs sale price better.
