I have been working at Bloomberg Industry Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Such great benefits, pay. Several incentives to have employee feel like they are valued.

    Cons

Your experience will depend on who is your manager. There are several managers who look to develop you and help you progress internally. There are others who don’t.

I worked at Bloomberg Industry Group full-time

    Pros

great benefits, work from home, and decent salary and commission

    Cons

Very high turnover rate. You have to make 100's of cold calls every week and are expected to have 10 appts a week (which no one really can do, week after week). You don't get credit for repeat customers (customers renewing their contract every year, which is common). You only get credit for net new business, so you're constantly "chasing the carrot". Your territory has been overworked by every sales person before... you, so your customers don't want to see you. I eventually found out that I was the 6th sales rep to work my territory in the last 11 years (most sales reps quit or get fired after 1-2 years of working there). The ones that stay are really stressed. They have "cold calling" day once or twice a month, which I used to dread (along with most other reps). Basically, all the reps on the team compete against each other to make as many appts as possible in 1 day. (5 is the expectation). So, if you only get 2 or 3 for the day, your manager will call/email you angrily asking why you didn't get more, lay a guilt trip on you, and put even more pressure on you. No matter how hard you work, it's never good enough in their eyes.

    Advice to Management

Michael Bloomberg is the real problem. Yeah, he's a billionaire - but he also has the attitude of what you do is never good enough. you need to be working harder (even if you're over plan). The company will never change - this is just the culture of the company. if you enjoy being worked to death, then this company is for you.

I have been working at Bloomberg Industry Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, pantry with coffee, tea, cereals, fruits, convenient location in Arlington. Union protection for employees though much weaker since Bloomberg bought company

    Cons

BNA become vessel for Bloomberg. No trace of anything other than fear, abuse used as main methods to squeeze employees to work to achieve impossible performance goals while management goes to meetings not helping with workload. Union work week is 37.5 hours- many employees work overtime without reporting it for fear of not meeting performance goals. Employees get younger and younger, older employees targeted often... to leave so they can be replaced by younger workers. Targeting vicious and union weaker than it used to be so employees have less protection. Very high turnaround because of stress and lack of morale generally.

    Advice to Management

Middle Management in difficult position. Those that try to be reasonable get outvoted and are in fear of losing jobs. Employees encouraged to volunteer on weekends for philanthropic activities to reflect well on company but always scheduled for weekends or lunchtimes so there is more demands on employees. Emails sent from Human Resources to inquire about what volunteer activities employees participate in

    Pros

Great benefits, nice work life balance, friendly atmosphere, lots of innovation to be a part of if to are willing to step-up!

    Cons

Upper managements understanding of products and subscriber needs could improve. There is a lot of energy/resources spent on measuring and metric checking when there sometimes should be more spent on action!

    Advice to Management

Demonstrate trust in the people you selected to lead-be more receptive to what you people leaders tell you.
