      A Disorganized Mess

      Pros

I started working virtually during COVID, and the company tried to keep people engaged. They occasionally hosted virtual happy hours and would send us snacks/alcohol for larger company meetings. It seems if you can manage to not get arbitrarily laid off, you'll be promoted for almost no reason. Work culture is pretty laid back.

      Cons

From Day 1 this place was extremely disorganized. Nobody took the time to train me in my position, and there was no one available to ask questions. Super frustrating when you're just trying to do your job but don't have the resources. Turnover is also incredibly high, with most of it being layoffs. There is literally no job security, you can be there for 20 years or 6 months and still be laid off. Most people I worked with had been there less than a year.

      Trade Offs

      Pros

I am earning $49,200 annually with no college degree. The company actually does promote from within. They offer 401k with matching up to 6% Multiple healthcare packages to choose from. Guaranteed 2 days off a week. PTO. Meal discounts and bonuses.

      Cons

The yearly performance based reviews that decide your raise are pushed off regularly. You work EVERY major holiday without exception. Nights and Weekends on, obviously. Your days off may be split, or vary week to week. You could be off Mon, Tues of one week and Sat, Sun of the next week, meaning you work 10 days in a row. Shifts are generally 10 hours each. Lack of communication between corporate and the stores. Little time to plan ahead for events and specials they are running. No sick days. Taking a sick day as a salaried manager is taboo. Higher-ups tell you to be honest and stay home when sick, but the meaning beneath their words is don't get sick, or don't tell them when you are sick. It WILL affect raises and promotion opportunities. Getting anything resolved on Home Offices end takes MONTHS. Your individual performance will be trumped by your stores performance. So, be careful where you agree to go. I would avoid low volume stores, or stores in a declining economic region. And Corporate has some pretty bad attitudes. They can treat those of us at the store level pretty poorly when they come to visit. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just plain rude. The "culture" is just propaganda. I am not convinced anyone at Home Office or Corporate holds true to the 7 principles.

      Pros

Leadership has gone above and beyond during the pandemic in terms of ensuring all employees are retained and are kept abreast of developments in our company. Excellent leadership. Excellent opportunities for growth. Good benefits. Great culture.

      Cons

Be wiling to listen to ideas and improvements from your staff. We talk a lot about Agile - let's truly live by it. High cost of benefits - would like to see more cost sharing at the top so the middle does not get squeezed.
