I have been working at Bloomin' Brands full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - People, people, people. Truly some of the best people I have worked with in 10+ years
    - Truly awesome brands and an "ownership" culture where people take accountability
    - Great collaboration across concepts and functions
    - Great culture: lots of employee events, opportunities for input
    - Management had adopted Agile approaches and is very accessible with numerous formal and informal methods to raise ideas and feedback
    - Terrific work-life balance
    - Great location - Home Office has free refreshments (Coke machines, etc.) and there is always food somewhere around the office
    - Everyone in Corporate is bonus-eligible
    - Equity compensation for Director+

    Cons

Anyone in the restaurant industry knows margins are tight...this makes for tradeoffs but Bloomin so far isn't trading off on people

    Advice to Management

The strategy is working - keep bringing us along with you so can continue to meet and exceed expectations!

I worked at Bloomin' Brands full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There is lots of real life experience to be gained in a management position. Lots of hands on application of processes.

    Cons

There is little support given to the operations staff. They are often sent training videos and materials, with unrealistic time frames. It is often hard to reach the company goals. All to often it felt like a pyramid scheme, you have several bosses all drawing large salaries and bonuses who come bark that you need to save more money, yet they don't offer help or support in any of the process. It leads to lots of management staff getting burnt out and moving on to companies that offer support and keep up with current trends in the market place.

All in all, Blooming brands at one time was a great employer, but it has lost focus on quality and customer satisfaction. The employees are not highly valued, and the structure of the company is continually changing to try to find a way to save a buck.

Also beware that there is a very strong promote from within culture, which is usually great, but there are very few systems in place to teach people actual critical management skills.

I have been working at Bloomin' Brands full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. No one seems to care if you roll in at 10am

    Cons

No room for advancement! Expected to do all the hard work, and management is to be filled in at the end to take to senior management. In a constant need to figure out how the last person did it, because the company lays off some of their best performers.

    Advice to Management

Keep the hard workers and not the ones you feel less threatened by.

I have been working at Bloomin' Brands part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Welcoming and helpful work community, diversity in tasks, always moving, very flexible schedule, considerable tip bonus, company incentives and goals, management is very understanding and willing to work with any personal difficulties in ability to work.

    Cons

Employees may be requested to come in at inconvenient times, several days of the year may be needed to come in, work is often repetitive, workspaces, equipment, and supplies may often be disorganized and messy.

    Advice to Management

Inform and remind employees of opportunities and availability to move up in

I worked at Bloomin' Brands full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great co-workers
Corporate comp card for meals at the brands

    Cons

    Annual layoffs.
50 - 60 people laid off each year in November, just in time for the holidays 8-(
After the layoffs those of us who remain have that much more work to do.
    Until we quit too.
Or until contractors are hired to replace those who were laid off.
Not a place for a career.

    Advice to Management

You cannot reorganize yourself into success.
You need to treat people as your Ps&Bs state.
You are ruining the lives of loyal people whose only mistake was that they trusted their upper management to be as loyal.
