    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Meet a lot of people, if you are part time there is some flexibility with schedule. Can take advantage of employee discount

    Cons

On your feet the entire time, must fetch merchandise, the Returns impact your commission, too much turnover. It is boring when slow.

    Advice to Management

Keep the good Managers and Sales people. Change your ridiculous return policy.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discounts at all Bloomingdales and Macy's. Gain a lot of retail experience. You can climb the latter pretty quickly from becoming a sales representative to a department specialist.

    Cons

Long hours, huge work load for "ok" pay. Commission is not that much. The environment can become competitive with other co-workers.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At a management level, the pay is very competitive. A great employee discount.

    Cons

To succeed in management, you must be reconciled to have very little personal time. If you want to raise a family and are looking for a flexible job, this is not it. Those who succeed here do not have children.

    Advice to Management

Oppressive upper management poisons the water.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If your into fashion, it's the perfect place to work as your constantly around newest trends. Some great people work there! It's (use to be) a fast paced environment and it's fun to create outfits for clients and upsell to exceed sales goals.

    Cons

Management was horrible. GM is miserable and fake. New dress code is being taken advantage of and people look sloppy.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees more.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked in the Ladies' shoes department at the Orlando Bloomingdale's; here are some takeaways from my experience

-Worked with great people; talented sales professionals and individuals as a whole
    -paid weekly
-easy to take off work outside of holiday season; pretty lenient attendance policy
    -good commission during holidays
-great employee discount for expensive Bloomingdale's clothes and accessories
-very individual sales job, not a lot of manager oversight or micro-managing
-does offer basic, affordable benefits (health, 401k, etc.)

    Cons

-revolving door of coworkers; saw at least a dozen people get hired and leave in the nearly two years I worked there. Most who work there stay for two years tops, only four of my coworkers, excluding the manager even, have been there 8+ years
-hard to see how commission is determined; commission is a gray area that managers have a time even explaining
-sometimes cut-throat competition between sales professionals in a department; be wary of who you work with
-sales goals can be unrealistic; department stores are not as popular as they once were considering online sales, so be prepared for more online returns/exchanges than in-store transactions
-flood the floor with sales associates in ladies' shoes (heard this was getting better, but they seem to over hire to cut into the veteran sales professionals' commission)
-manager is too hands-off sometimes; certain sales associates get away with a lot of unprofessional tendencies (playing on phone on sales floor, talking to other associates too much on sales floor, etc.)
-not the best chances for advancement in the company

    Advice to Management

Have a better eye on sales professional activities and stop flooding the floor with associates. It looks bad and intimidates customers to have 12+ associates all looking for a sale in a small shoes department

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pay is decent.
    Meet wonderful customers

    Cons

    Work/Life Balance can be crazy
Non-Holiday seasons can be slow; paychecks definitely reflect.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and great employee discounts

    Cons

Expensive health insurance, no commuter stipend for certain employees, 401k not great, no stock options, and most debilitating aspect is that there is no set return date for customers.

    Advice to Management

Set a better return date for customers : I.e one aligned with business standards such as 14 days or 30 days ONLY to return.

I have been working at Bloomingdale's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For PT: paid weekly, vacation and sick pay, 20% employee discount, friendly staff, new ideas are welcomed, flexible schedule, consistent hours

    Cons

Management cares more about sales than focusing on employee development, unorganized stockroom, no sense of urgency, and insufficient training for new employees

    Advice to Management

Treat employees fairly and recognize accomplishments to boost morale
