    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I originally worked at a location all through college. I needed some extra funds and found that they were very welcoming as part of the holiday sales. After the first season that I worked during that time. I was given a bit more flexibility with hours. Although, I stay in town during the holidays and don't travel out to see family. They usually come to me so it works out. Oh and the discounts are really great.

    Cons

Some of the people that have been there for a long time treat the seasonal people crappy. Although, I am sure that happens in a lot of places. I mean totally better than working at Target or Big Lots during the Holidays. (no offense if you find that is what you are doing) There is really no perks being part time, but the pay isn't bad for retail.

    Advice to Management

I like the management so I don't really have any advice to doll out to them. I hope that department stores are not passing on the strain of lowering sales due to online shopping onto the employees. It sucks but hopefullly the people in the headquarters are coming up with a way to stay afloat.

    Pros

Working in the fast-paced NYC flagship store within the fashion industry.

    Cons

Not many cons except for working weekends, but the weekend is when sales are best, so not really a con.

    Advice to Management

Try to hear front-line associates when possible because they have suggestions that may help increase sales.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really nice environment. Co-workers are nice. Your not always stuck doing the same thing you find yourself always doing something different. I got to move around as i pleased.

    Cons

Stock room is a little dusty so if your like myself who has allergies it wasn't always pleasant when you had to go back there to get your customer something. Sometimes they would make the new girls work on another department in a tiny register that nobody would pay attention too and that NOT COOL especially if you are working on commission. There were somethings i had to learn on my own and i would've highly appreciated it if someone would've warned me for example i had to pick up phone calls from customers who had questions or wanted to make an order while i was on my register and i had constant client needing my help or trying to check out, this i never knew i had to do.

I have been working at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong brand, good work environment, creativity encouraged, ability to make decisions, collaboration encouraged, many very intelligent and stimulating people to work with

    Cons

Can be too top-heavy with too great of a focus on strategy with not enough appreciation for the tactics that help deliver a strategy. Some very bright people in leadership roles are not organized enough to drive execution. Or keep up with communications in a rapidly changing environment.
