I have been working at Bloomingdale's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They can't fire because they have to pay unemployment which is more than what they pay you a salary.

    Cons

You are treated like garbage. Talked down to by the management and expected to lie to customers.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee discount (if you can afford it, unlikely)
Ability to make friends, if you are there long enough
    Invisibility, yes it's a pro

    Cons

Unbelievable level of abuse from senior management towards anyone not in favor at the moment, including DMM level. If you've fallen out of good graces you are bullied, harassed and made miserable. Childish retributions and attacks from top (GMM and above) levels of management. Inability to recognize their faults and act on them.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your priorities and focus on your people. End the favoritism. Persecution is not a good motivator. Be honest.

    I have been working at Bloomingdale's part-time

    Pros

For part time they're very compensating with scheduling

    Cons

Dress code, You're required to open a credit card to use your employee discount, not as "high fashion" as it used to be, low ball employees in wages, HR isn't very helpful, Hard to receive raises, pressure to open credit cards, unrealistic sales goals (draw vs. commission)

    Advice to Management

There are only two managers for the entire women management floor, more is needed to help resolve issues.

    Pros

None really. Unless you work your butt off you will end up paying the company back

    Cons

Ultimately you can hussle and have a bad week. Now that I know what I know I would have never agreed to this form of pay especcially living in such an expensive city. Run and find another job

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Narcissists and psychopaths will thrive and be promoted. There are many very nice and hard working people who work there, but they will not last in leadership positions.

    Cons

You will already be invested in your experience there before you realize how super skeevy it is to work there.

    Advice to Management

    Give honesty a try.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros in the company except a discount that changes weekly.

    Cons

Sales are deceiving and make it difficult to close a sale without upsetting a customer.
You are required to return everything whether that return its justified or not. Returns for defective merchandise are held against you and your commission will be affected.
Commission theft is rampant and managers are complicit.
That anonymous survey you take every year is not at all anonymous and results are discussed among management team with plans to counsel out the " negative nellies".
Way to Manager heavy in corporate while stock people and sales people are laid off every January.

    Advice to Management

Stop having such contempt for your sales teams and don't be so obvious with your favoritism.

    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very few pros : the very few pros would have to be 1. the occasional decent commission checks(but those were rare being in draw vs. commission) and 2. the contests. and thats about it.

    Cons

So many things wrong with the way Bloomingdales managers treat the sales professional team. There is a huge favoritism issue and most everyone is very unprofessional. Working here made me very sad and I dreaded going to work on any given day. Draw vs. commission is the worst form of commission. I am not proud to say i was an associate at Bloomingdales. No wonder they don't do as well as Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus as a company. Huge turn over rate, don't work here.

    Advice to Management

Please allow yourselves to actually be nice to the sales professionals and being extremely passive aggressive is no way to manage a store. Please work on being more compassionate towards people as well.
