    I worked at Bloomingdale's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pays better than minimum wage. Currently the minimum wage in NYS is $8.00 Bloomingdales pays seasonal sales support $8.50 to $10.00.

    Cons

Job does not pay enough and the work is boring.

    Advice to Management

Be up front, tell people this is just for the season and we cannot promise you a permanent position.

    Pros

A solid company with a fast paced environment, which helps make its' employees very capable of holding a heavy work load and achieving success in multitasking.

    Cons

The level of trust and sense of job security makes the work place uncomfortable at best. There is a lack of trust between the workers and the management.

    Advice to Management

Remember that trust and a sense of security can earn you the loyalty of your workers faster and more completely than money ever could. With trust , a good worker becomes a valuable or priceless resource.

    Pros

The employee discount made up for the hard work and long hours put in. As much as anyone would protest the pay is above average...but thats how they suck you in.

    Cons

This company's need for absolute control supersedes all reasonable logic within this location. Most Sr. Mgmt are a remnant of the post Reganomic Era; where profit and pride outweigh accountability and civility. The negative behavior has a trickle down effect that has lead to: Internal Theft, Favoritism, Lack of Morale, Degradation, Unrealistic sales goals, unprofessional ADR reviews, double if not triple work, a complete loss of professional work ethic, and lack of communication. Lower Mgmt are not able to make any solid business decisions regardless of their decades of experience. They are usually just bullied into submission and constantly take out their frustration on Sales professionals and Support staff. Corporate directives are very dated, and out of touch with other more cutting edge retailers. Visually, this location has more in common with a mirrored box of Kleenex than that of a high-end department store.

    Advice to Management

Hire new management...the behaviors/attitudes of your current management is too deeply ingrained. Listen more to your support staff, they work the hardest. Have your coffee talks facilitated by outside corporate management; internal management only uses this open forum to snuff out the outspoken. Take pride in Diversity, rather than looking down on it. And have more faith in the people that you hire, instead of focusing on the negative...I hear that "coaching and training" are the new rage in business management.

I have been working at Bloomingdale's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

up to date with fashion, the employee discount, the vacation days & sick days

    Cons

commission x draw, managers only care about opening credit cards, sales associates steal your sales

    Advice to Management

if you focus more on what the employees actually have to say, maybe it'll improve sales goals. a customer is always right but not when they abuse the sales people
