I have been working at Blount International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Take good care of their people. Lot's of opportunities for driven hard-working individuals. Recognize strong talent. Above average compensation.

    Cons

Horizontal alignment in Manufacturing leadership is lacking, but getting better. Performance management a little on the weak side.

    Advice to Management

Create a clear vision and expectations that the manufacturing team can work towards, and address those that refuse to work toward the common goal.

    Pros

This company bought out my old company Carlton Company and held onto it's employees for 5 years or until a clause ran out of the old owner's will and then proceeded to lay off 200 employees. I will say that this company has some nice people that work there and gave us a severance pay (only good thing about this company).

    Cons

This Blount International had expectations that were unreal and made existing employees miserable to the point of quitting. I survived this and am thankful I did not make the move to it's old plant and was laid off. The IT people hired to see if we were doing as much work load as we could, should of been on the floor to run the machines that they thought we ran so bad. I would never work for a plant that has no regard for employees that work for them.

    Advice to Management

I don't think your weekly meetings will improve your company's bottom line and can't wait for your company to sink.

I worked at Blount International full-time

    Pros

Steady work with a company that desires to do better. Good coworkers. Good growth opportunities both for a career and within the company. Okay tools.

    Cons

Pace of change was slow relative to other industries. Information and resources were silo-ed like many large organizations. ERP architecture struggled to deliver meaningful analysis. Pockets of conservative workplace culture did not match generally diverse environment.

    Advice to Management

Overall, Blount does okay. Get the ERP right as soon as possible. Dig one level deeper in the financial analysis and review controls. Respect for tenure is admirable, but risks complacency and a lack of urgency.

I have been working at Blount International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. Lots of overtime. Not much else to say really. Wish there was more to say in the pros section but there isn't.

    Cons

Poor management. Unclean. Unsafe. Safety issues aren't fixed until an injury occurs. Machines poorly maintained. Employees do not work hard. Massive office politics. More is expected of hard workers. Management incites employees to spread rumors and fight.

I worked at Blount International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent people work there; Hard working, dedicated, and friendly/helpful. I worked there nearly eight years. Fantastic experience, and enjoyed several promotions. Good pay. Standard to better-than-standard benefits. On-site gym. Great campus, easy location to get to in the Portland metro area.

    Cons

Every company has challenges and/or challenging areas. At BLOUNT, one would be upward mobility. Others I'm sure might come up with more, but for me, this was about the only negative for me.

    Advice to Management

Are you hiring the right people to manage various areas based on skill set and appropriate experience, or are you hiring/promoting managers and others because of personal connections?

I worked at Blount International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are good people at the company who truly want to make it a better place and to do a great job.

    Cons

Rampant nepotism. Also, high level management promotes 'yes men' and their friends, and not the people who are best for the position. There is also bullying by managers to get what they want from lower level employees. The environment is toxic.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. You say you believe in people, but you don't. You allow managers to act unscrupulously towards others.
