I have been working at Blount International full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This has truly been one of my favorite organizations I have been a part of. There is a true belief and desire to help develop and support their team members (we aren't called employees!) through a variety of learning and development opportunities. The other unique part of Blount International is the Global Women Sponsorship Program for Women Leaders. Blount recognizes the need, value and importance to have representation...

    Cons

There are still some gaps on information sharing and breaking down some of the silos that existed within the organization. It is a work in progress!

    Pros

Professional environment that lets you put in 8 hrs and go home.

    Cons

Plant shutdowns during July and December force employees to use 7 vacation days. Dr note required if sick for more than 2 days.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees by allowing them to take time off when they want to.

I worked at Blount International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Family oriented company, EXCELLENT Benefits, friendly people, lots of room for growth and development. Company with lots of room for improvement; Private equity ownership is very relaxed in its management style. The right person could really fast forward their career if they get a foot in the door here! Haven't met a single person in middle management who wasn't approachable or afraid to investigate to the root cause...

    Cons

Interdepartmental riffs and communication can be frustrating at times. Some departments are toxic due to a couple people who have worked there too long and don't believe a recent grad could be capable of doing the work they do or should be getting similar pay. Cafeteria food is AWFUL and EXPENSIVE.

    Advice to Management

Investigate high turnover departments to see if it's due to the type of work or the people on the team.

I worked at Blount International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free snacks at the first break of each shift. Onsite cafe, best as last resort. Online learning system with feee courses. Two mediocre health insurance options. Onsite doctors two days a week. 401K with average matching program. Front-load vacation and sick time, won't carryover unused vacation or pay out-use it or lose it. Many long-term employees (decades), many people retire from the company, mostly manufacturing roles....

    Cons

Stuck in the 60's with antiquated values, outdated facilities and equipment, less than stellar "innovation." Safety is an afterthought, filled with uncooperative people who have the mindset that they've done it a thousand times so no need for safety practices. Male-dominated organization operating on good 'ole boys club behavior. Heavy on amount of engineers for non-engineering roles, filled with socially awkward and...

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with what is really happening at the ground level-make an effort to seek the truth, as opposed to following status quo. Show up and interact with employees, don't just make an appearance once a year just to ignore those who deserve acknowledgement. Don't promote just because someone wants to add a notch on their resume belt. Bring in outside talent with with new ideas and real-world experience. Celebrate...

    Pros

Excellent company to work for. Great benefits. Room for advancement in certain areas. Performance bonus for field management.

    Cons

Lack of communication between field and office, allow office employees field time. Increase upper management personnel, too much work for one person for each area. Need to find quality personnel for positions within the company.

    Advice to Management

Improve employee morale, field trips for office personnel, better advancement opportunities.
