    Pros

did some interesting work with the team there

    Cons

was part of a downsizing initiative

    I worked at Blucora full-time

    Pros

The compensation (base pay and benefits) is quite good. The people are generally pleasant. Work-life balance is excellent.

    Cons

There was no appetite for innovation. Leadership was so risk-averse that if a project couldn't be proven to make buckets of money *immediately* then we didn't bother - not a ton of fun from a product development point of view.

    Advice to Management

Have some patience and balance the long term needs with the short term.

    Pros

Non management/executive employees were usually great. Worked with a lot of different types of technology. Fair compensation

    Cons

Leadership was a nightmare. Very hands off, delegation-only style of management.

    Pros

Enjoyed working there because everyone was friendly and co-operative. Management was good. Very employee focused company. Would like to work there again.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Blucora full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits WERE good. The mid level and junior teams are close. We all backed each other up because the directors were all idiots and just took the credit for our work.

    Cons

CFO & VPs have been there since the early 2000s as managers and promote themselves and others even though they are clueless when it comes to industry trends and best practices.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone from Director to CFO and start with a clean slate with TaxACT and H.D. Vest. Except for the CEO, all of them are unaware of disruption and innovations. They're only aware of themselves, their titles, salaries and bonuses.

    Pros

Ok benefits, time-off, but that's about it

    Cons

not sure on the direction the company is going. Selling off other businesses after 2 years. Lot of people losing their jobs here. Said they are focusing on 1 sector (Financial) so we'll see how that goes. but during the time I've been here, not much communication until after the fact.
