I have been working at Blue Apron full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People who work at BA are very passionate about the company and care about changing the food system for the better. People genuinely love their job and care about the impact that BA is having on the people who use the service. Great culture & people.

    Cons

Because it's a start up environment, you have to be adaptable with the growth of the company. The upper management is very proactive in training employees in leadership positions.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Blue Apron full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the employees are the best you will ever find at a company

    Cons

Growth is only available if you are favored by upper management. Rock the boat and you are put in the dog house. Communication between upper management to lower management is horrible. You are asked to do a higher role constantly and not get paid for it, or get anything for it. Then once the role is over they throw you back to your regular role and tell you, you don't meet their expectations at the end of the... year.

I worked at Blue Apron full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great co workers, the regular staff really pays attention to what's going on and they will always help you as long as you help them.

    Cons

Management is disconnected with the team. Upper management is always changing and promotions are dangled like carrots, but when you prove your worth they give the promotion to their favorites.

    Advice to Management

Get reconnected with your good employees. Get better upper management that doesn't just let good people leave.

I worked at Blue Apron full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The biggest has to be the great people I worked with. All were smart, personable, and driven. I had a great manager who was always supportive and willing to address issues. Some of my former co-workers are my best friends. One of the more diverse companies I've worked for

    Cons

Upper management is a mess. There's no direction, goals seemed to change every few weeks, and no one was ever on the same page. Major year long projects were canceled after completion because people forgot to determine if they would actually be profitable. It was unbelievable. They were never truthful. Obviously we could see that the company was doing badly by looking at the collapse of the stock price and the... abysmal earnings calls. The CEO always framed it as if the market wasn't seeing something and that we were actually on the path to profitablity. Obviously not, because the stock is now a penny stock and still sinking. Morale is at rock bottom. Before and after the second round of layoffs (Nov 2018), tons of important employees left the company. Within weeks of the latest layoff, 5+ extremely important engineers left. There's no money to hire anyone and those that are experienced have either left the company or are looking. They're outsourcing to fill many of the positions, which is a red flag. Benefits weren't good. No 401K match and ok health insurance. Honestly would be shocked if the company is around in two years.

    Advice to Management

-Be truthful. Employees can tell when you're lying -Do more to retain top talent. The NYC job market is hot right now and there's little reason for engineers to stay with the company

    Pros

-easy work -free lunch -co-workers understood each other

    Cons

-not a lot of room to promote -upper management looks down on you -disregarded even if you have great ideals for the company

    Advice to Management

-you should really look into people you're hiring and see if they went to college and can help this company out instead of steal their ideals and keep them as an associate

I worked at Blue Apron full-time

    Pros

The "associates", if you will, (non-management positions) are mostly wonderful, smart, supportive people. Snacks Blue Apron discount

    Cons

Profit-over-everything became the clear approach since a few months before the IPO and it definitely affected the culture and work environment There is very little recognition and it relies mostly on whether you're liked or not. They started an evaluation process that is very hypocritical and one-sided, assessing performance in relation to the display and application of company's values when achieving your... business goals, when none of those values are displayed towards, or in the benefit of, the employees Very little equality and almost no diversity, especially in upper management C-Suite is horrible at managing expectations and this stems from very poor communication Morale is very low and there is a pervasive feeling that there is no interest in improving it

    Advice to Management

Be genuine and honest. You hired smart, hard-working people - treat them as such Care about people as people - if you care about employees, employees will care about your company. If the feeling is that they're just a replaceable part of a machine you don't care about unless it's raking in money, people will have the same regard for the brand Give feedback that is actionable; if people aren't performing as... necessary tell them what it is they are doing wrong so they can correct course. If you don't have money to give raises then say so

    I worked at Blue Apron

    Pros

A lot of authority, extremely competent and friendly colleagues, clear series of tasks, opportunity to interact with various teams

    Cons

The company was coming off dramatic growth and there was a slight sense of disorganization and some disagreement between upper management and the rest of the work force about product prioritization

    Pros

Flexible PTO, Good Benefits, Free snacks, Company went public so everyone can see how terrible of an organization it is.

    Cons

Incompetent Leadership, Excessive work politics, Promotions are handed to employees just because they are friends with upper management and have no experience in the role. No room for growth. Open office space concept is extremely noisy. Company culture is sinking just like it's IPO.

    Advice to Management

Sell your company before Amazon puts you out of business.

I have been working at Blue Apron full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is growing very fast, a lot of new faces and managers and supervisors who seem to care and listen to my concerns and act. Management is communicating and keeps us informed of all the changes and things happening. Better security and entrances should be better. Plant is being organized to keep up with growth and I see improvements, we have free lunches! snacks after rallys and meetings

    Cons

There have been some security problems with lazy and employees (temps) who have come recently, but problems seem to be addressed by the upper management. Some see the changes as bad but I think they will help us forward. Getting to the parking lot is worse because we have to drive around the building. Environment is cold to work in and a lot of people don't care and are only here for quick money

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees who have been here for a long time and care about the company. We want to make the place better and keep up with growth. Get rid of the bad employees they trash the place and don't care and cause problems.
