    Pros

agressive business plans for expanding revenues

    Pros

Great benefits and compensation package. Good location, perks, free breakfast, company events, good wellness program. Friendly people, onsite yoga and bootcamp

    Cons

You have to be a self disciplined individual, ability to work in a fast pasted environment. The job can be quite administrative at times as the company operates with minimal resources. Great opportunity for challenge, however

I worked at Blue Coat Systems full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits, office shut down during winter, great training. Employees overall tend to stay at the company which they are making strides to change for the better. Opportunity to rotate to other roles throughout the company.

    Cons

Company culture does not resonate with individual team environments. Forced rotations and unevenly distributed work-loads with politics rotting team morale. Manager's mistakes and complete disregard for confidentiality is barely given a glance or consequences. No upward rating of managers' performances. No stock options or EESP offered.

    Advice to Management

You used to be able to retain your employees. Better background checks and interviews for bosses should be done along with upward feedback programs so that there is a good culture fit on both ends of the spectrum. Don't just hire someone to fill in an empty role because there is a need. Let staff also have opportunities to interview upper management level candidates to ensure a good fit.

I have been working at Blue Coat Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has some really smart people to work with and learn from. A very large portfolio of products.

    Cons

Executives and management hires their own circle of associates and friends. No real possibility of advancement unless you are part of this group.

    Advice to Management

Need to really enforce and live the company values. Management needs to walk the talk. Employees that have been in the company longer have seen and witnessed the opposite.

    Pros

Great benefits package and interesting technical problems to solve.

    Cons

Upper management. The directives from the executive staff seem to not be in line with the priorities they have given. Many reorganizations in order to make numbers look good. The success of the product line is compromised.

    Advice to Management

Listen to managers and be reasonable in expectations.

I worked at Blue Coat Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generous work-at-home policy. Nice, nice people. Patience abounds when you are ramping up in your position, as network security and optimization are highly technical subjects -- each with their own vernacular. Huge upside potential for this brand, as it is emerging as the only leader in the space that can deliver all stages of an Advanced Threat Defense within the context of a more traditional Secure Web Gateway solution.

    Cons

Staggering volume of work, as a result of minimal staffing in each department. Most folks are doing the job of 3-to-4 people, at least. Huge expectations as to number of hours worked. 24/7 on-call status is not uncommon for many in the mid-to-higher levels of the organization. Training is nonexistent, and junior team members are often left to their own devices. Many senior people are untrained in their vocational disciplines, as well. Classic case of engineers placed in high-level marketing roles.

    Advice to Management

If you are expecting loyalty, stock options for everyone during the current pre-IPO push is the only equitable solution. Most will not dedicate their souls to you without potential for a big payout at an exit event.
