I have been working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There’s an open schedule policy. The option to work from home is a plus. A really good benefits package.

    Cons

They lump too many positions into one generic role. So when there’s time to look at raises and compare to the market, the result is unsatisfactory because they are looking at the pay scale for the wrong positions.

    Advice to Management

Look at the the specific roles and duties if your employees and adjust salaries according.

    Pros

    - parking, cafeteria, benefits, pay

    Cons

    - job cuts/outsourcing, no real longterm stability unless your family got you a job.

Move along w the times. Care about employees. Fee for service is dissipating. Focus more on managed care model. Losing your butts in Fraud, Waste and Abuse.

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall, it’s a great company to work for. The health insurance benefits are best I’ve ever seen. If you work in the business side of the house, you can have a good paying career in a supportive, diverse and stable environment.

    Cons

IT organization is polar opposite. Leadership changes are the norm. You’re supporting 20-25 year old infrastructure & apps along with new technologies. There’s no coordination, no planning, and very little collaboration among teams. No opportunities to learn and dive deeply into technology. No innovation. Keeping the lights on. This is how we always do things. Change is a bad word.

    Advice to Management

You’re not good at IT. In fact, word on the street is your place is a career killer. In 2018, that’s a really big problem.

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, especially free health insurance

    Cons

Corporate politics. There are a lot of areas and divisions were Manager and Director positions are given by friendship or close relationships and not merit. Because these Managers/Directors have no skills they work very hard to eliminate any competition, dismissing talent constantly.

    Advice to Management

There should be a real effort in discovering real talent and Executive Management should be assessing who is currently in Leadership roles
