I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good breadth of experience, good pay

    Cons

Old school managers reluctant to change. Lot of say one thing but do another. Need to work on employee retention. The good hires all leave because they see the inept that runs throughout the organization

    Advice to Management

Look to cultivate your hires instead of putting them down the basic track you had to when you were younger.

    Pros

Competitive salary, good benefits, centrally located Chicago office. Many talented staff who care about the company mission of supporting health plans and improving care for patients.

    Cons

Atmosphere and conditions vary by department. At least one Senior Leader has created a highly toxic work environment and culture of fear. Activities border on the unethical. If you seek employment, ask about staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Do not ignore staff complaints and be prepared to challenge the behavior of other Senior leaders. Look at what is actually happening, not what Senior leaders tell you is happening.
