The company is growing in so many directions, development resources are spread a bit thin.

    Pros

If you can make it here you can make it anywhere. Very hard independent work in often stressful fast paced environment but rewarding.

Lean environment with extremely complicated scenarios involving large emotional purchases.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people or others will.

I worked at Blue Nile (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a good group of people to work for, work happy hours and potlucks. The area we worked was nice, and the teams had nerf gun fights quite a bit. I loved the building and being able to be downtown and take the bus was nice.

    Cons

Some longer hours, and some problems with the team against the higher ups who were kind of controlling and micro-managing things they didn't need to. The dev team also never warmed up to me, a contract worker.

    Advice to Management

Have confidence in your team to get stuff done. Interdepartmental functions to get closer would be better.

    Pros

    Cons

    Flat organization with little movement.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation for the jobs that people do everyday. Find ways to recognize the great team you have on a consistent basis, not just every so often.

I have been working at Blue Nile full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of room for advancement and chances to move between departments, flexible hours, good health benefits.

    Cons

Lots of construction around the building means constant noise and shaking in the building. Many technology projects are left mostly complete, which causes permanent manual work-arounds to when something doesn't work correctly.

    Advice to Management

If you want extraordinary staff, set your salaries above the industry average rather than right in the middle.

I worked at Blue Nile full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smaller business in terms of headcount, so lots of cross-department interactions. Nice managers. Casual environment and frequent perks like bbqs and half-days.

    Cons

Pay seems to be below market and vacation maxes at three weeks, but there decent benefits other than that
