I worked at Blue Plate Catering part-time

    Pros

Great flexibility and pay. As a college student, working events that fit your schedule was the best part.

    Cons

Some supervisors/captains were very rude. Especially one who would push you out the way and talk down on you.

I have been working at Blue Plate Catering full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent advancement opportunities and management listens and cares about employees. You will always have the support to succeed.

    Cons

The needs of the business often necessitate long hours; but you will always have advance notice of these long hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

I have been working at Blue Plate Catering part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been working here for about 3 months and the pros are the flexible schedule and very organized/professional event supervisors, its a great job if your a student or just need a second job for the weekends. Through blue plate I've catered small events in the suburbs serving champaign and appetizers as well as full service dinner events with 1000 guests at the field museum and this company is always organized, the event supervisors know exactly what to do and keep the events flowing smoothly. Every event is different and so coming to work is never boring.

    Cons

Not so much a con but more of an annoyance: Servers that have been there for a long time kind of act like h.s. students and cling to their group of friends throughout an entire shift, often taking them longer to complete simple tasks that they intentionally drag out so that they can talk to their friend(s) creating more work for other servers, especially during the set up of events. I understand that they want to have fun while at work and thats good, but some need to remember to keep it down because its not their party, and they need to move faster if tables need to be set.

    Advice to Management

I understand there are a million of other things to worry about during an event, but please take a few minutes every now and then during an event and pay attention the servers.

I worked at Blue Plate Catering part-time

    Pros

Exposure to new foods, techniques, and environments.

    Cons

It has some redundancy due to the kind of business it partakes.

    Advice to Management

Management needs some adjustments in following state regulations and to appreciate the chefs more. They break promises a lot with no reciprocation for your efforts and there is discrimination displayed towards Blacks and Whites from Hispanic event chefs. Nepotism is present here and they make that difference through your wages. I was a Le Cordon Bleu Graduate with honors and was retaliated against and made $2 less than Hispanics who had no experience, no skill, no sanitation license. They won't let you grow unless your good with someone.

I worked at Blue Plate Catering part-time

    Pros

Cool managers, good training, family/community vibe, cool events, cool venues around Chicago you get to go to. GREAT FOOD.

    Cons

After they get your training out of the way, they give you much less shifts and work opportunities. Some of the older servers get paid to just show up, and don't contribute much work. You're forced to get rid of all the food on your plate, even though guests may get annoyed and clearly don't want more.. Feeling like you will never be in the position of those rich and beautiful you are serving because you are their servants. Not the best feeling.

I worked at Blue Plate Catering part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always best to learn different techniques, try different foods, sightseeing, and meeting new people.

    Cons

I really could not conquer the concept of pouring the sauce in a tidy timely matter.

    Pros

Amazing catering company. Would recommend their services to friends and family. Most of staff was patiet, understanding, and welcoming. Definitely able to get the job done!

    Cons

Management allows others to dictate the staff in which they are responsible for and with that being said, the scheduling manager is unreasonable and make the work environment unpleasant with strong-arm attitude.
