Respect emoloyees. Train managers people msnagement, persuasion, and communication skills. Actionable, Specific, reasonable, constructive criticism is great. Getting upset or frustrated and making someone feel they are stupid or incompetent is not okay. Acting liked you think they are lying is not okay. Expectations and deadlines need to be reasonable. Clearly communicating what to do is okay.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work life balance is good, it's easy to have a manageable schedule and get paid well for it. There is a small workout facility onsite, which has the basics and is great. To that end, the suite of wellness benefits is better than most companies.

    Cons

The company is very structured without creative room to grow or be strategic. The actual culture of the company doesn't match up with what the executives say or share, which perpetrates a feeling of uncertainty all the time. Tremendous turnover at both the leadership and rank and file level that constantly has people worrying if "they're next." There is also a lot of frantic energy around things for no reason.

    Advice to Management

Encourage managers to limit the number of unnecessary meetings. Constant check ins make employees feel like they're not trusted to reach outside their boundaries.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good company benefits, including salary.

    Cons

No work/life balance and constant company-wide reorgs contributing to so much chaos. Little to no training. While some of upper management were professional, the newest "onboards" were back-stabbing and often contributed to the chaos.

    Advice to Management

Each division should provide base-line training, a list of resources, and a good overview to the company.
