    Pros

Everyone is friendly and helpful and it is somewhere i can see myself retiring. Their training is outstanding and I feel no one gets left behind

    Cons

I don't really see any downfalls yet. When being trained I feel like I don't have to be on everyone's speed if I need help I just ask. Downfall would be the commute

    Advice to Management

When training for the job I would perform to know only the stuff related to the information that pertains to my job description sometimes you get lost in all the information at once

    Pros

There are definitely some awesome people to work with there.

    Cons

Company is currently in transition. They are losing a lot of good people due to the changes. Nothing feels stable. They are also losing customers left and right.

    Advice to Management

Find your direction fast or you won't survive.

    Pros

Easy work, 30 hour weeks if you have any talent, closer to 25 if your really talented. The industry is pretty boring, but it attracts mediocre talent, easy to look good.

    Cons

Boring, comp is OK not stellar. Has a true pension, so that's a nice perk.

    Advice to Management

Maybe to stop losing 250 mil a year? Maybe stop turning over the entire executive team every year?

    Year long restructuring.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary is above average, bonuses, great training resources, and convenient work locations. Granted you're willing to give up after hours personal time, and life with family/friends regularly and randomly 7 days a week in attempt to reach ridiculous expectations.

    Cons

Best practices and core business values are preached, but not followed. Massive layoff's in February, targeting managers, forced co-workers to assume roles their incapable of handling appropriately and atop overwhelming workloads. The situation is still in dire straights as of September when I left, with no sign of recovery or care whatsoever.

Teams feel like separate entities. PM's are contracted for duration of unrealistic ETA's, then picked up by someone else multiple times. Hostility between teams is a daily occurrence with most of the day spent in unproductive meetings.

If you feel the need to raise concerns; tread lightly! Instead, find another job and give your resignation as done on a regular basis. Otherwise you're considered a problem, others are informed and rallied together (Complying in fear of losing their job) to insure you're terminated shortly after.

In the 2 decade duration of my career, seeing so many turnover's in short periods of time, losing massive numbers of talented employees and executives constantly, outsourcing, and hiring countless incompetent replacements trying to fill the void... is a first for me; by a large margin!

Working here was a very unhealthy and unpleasant experience. I'd relate it to working at a fast food joint (calling it a restaurant would give it too much credit). If you're still considering working here, despite the far below average business rating and countless bad reviews alike, I wish you the best of luck!

    Advice to Management

If you still have a job here; cut the puppet strings, and stop turning a blind eye. It's painfully obvious structure is very poor and the root cause of most complaints.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time

    Pros

Family-friendly work hours - strictly 9-5 and very little travel required. On-site gym and cafeteria. Offers pension and 4+ weeks vacation.

    Cons

Lots of bureaucracy. Health insurer makes employees pay for their own health insurance (!). Lots of people on retirement track - not a "cool" or motivating place to work. Some shady practices with regard to billions in reserves, yet stingy in terms of coverage and rescissions.

    Advice to Management

You're a health insurance company - at least give your employees your product and services for free! Have a heart with your employees and individuals you cover.

    Pros

The leaders of the company are competent and the company gives back to the community. They have excellent benefits, good pay and have made great strides in diversity work.

    Cons

Would like the office to be more centrally located rather than el dorado hills, although the office is out of the way of traffic.
