I have been working at Blue Sky Satellite full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits and ability to work from home

    Cons

Sales sales sales! Everyday techs are hounded by "managers", to the point where it's almost harassment, to sell overpriced products to customers while servicing their satellite system. 3 out of the 4 managers probably won't know what day it is when asked... enough said.

    Advice to Management

Work in the field and hire new managers

I have been working at Blue Sky Satellite (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Boss emailing you constantly instead of looking over your shoulder so that's cool I guess...?

    Cons

Sell your heart out! Whatever it takes! Please sell a soundbar! Pleeeease!

    Advice to Management

It's super easy to make your pawns do the companies dirty work, yeah? I'm a technician and make the company quite a bit of money yet I'm hounded constantly about sales. Worked here too long for this crap and promises weren't kept gentlemen.

I worked at Blue Sky Satellite full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    A. Training was outstanding (due solely to Wes, the deservingly promoted now corporate trainer)
    B. Unsupervised and you can do as bad or as good a job as you want. For someone that takes pride in doing a good job, you have ample opportunity to go home being proud of the work you did for the day.
    C. Plenty of opportunity to compete against yourself and your peers.

    Cons

First and foremost - You are a SALESMAN just as much if not MORE than you are a technician, management will relentlessly remind you to sell sell sell regardless of the needs of the customer. You will get so sick of hearing the word 'Polk' [sound system] that hearing Polk will make you want to Puke.

    A. Risk getting hurt or killed every day for low pay (both overall in regards to what you do and in comparison to industry) and laughable commission
    B. Shell out hundreds of your own dollars to purchase required equipment
    C. No business for the office means no work, no hours, and no paycheck for you
    D. Customers are harassed, deceived, and in some cases (DishOne) flat out lied to; for these reasons and others, 8/10 customers are unhappy to see you and will let you know it. Appreciation and thanks for the work you did for the customer, no matter how exemplary, is very rare.
    E. Unsafe, unsanitary, and sometimes outright dangerous work conditions
    F. Rosy words come out of management's mouths but harsh reality is what you will experience
    G. Held to HIGHER work standards for LOWER pay
    H. You work until your route's done. What that means is you show up in the morning and you may work a standard 10-hour day, a light 4-hour day or a 14-or-more hour day.

**Personal Note** I was abandoned in the field in the middle of large job to figure out and complete the job myself as the newly-promoted manager left to attend the company picnic. J.s....

    Advice to Management

Office management can probably find better opportunities for their skills (speaking for decent management in Joplin office). Upper management is out of touch, seems miserable with sedentary bodies and eyes that are either lifeless or bugging out of their skull from the stress - but you're the big folks in charge and you gun for those bigger numbers - often at the expense of your underlings - so you can collect that bigger paycheck; hope the price you've paid for that's been worth it.

    Pros

    Decent pay
    Limited supervision
    Good customer appreciation
    Bonus opportunities
The ability to take time off when needed

    Cons

    LONG hours
Working in all sorts of weather
    Attics and crawl spaces
You never know what your getting into with each appointment
No difference between sick pay and vacation pay (all lumped into "PTO)

    Advice to Management

When a tech calls with a problem, actively listen rather assuming what you think is going on. Also managers need to get a little more in touch with what it's like to be a tech now instead of what it was like 10 years ago.

I have been working at Blue Sky Satellite full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of good people working there.

    Cons

The owners work against managers.. No work life balance. Metrics are designed to make it next to impossible to earn the full bonus. Everything runs downhill and is ultimately the technicians fault.

    Advice to Management

Hire someone to run the company that has some real world experience.

I have been working at Blue Sky Satellite (More than a year)

    Pros

Not bad for an entry level position. Paid training.

    Cons

Management within Topeka office. You're primary job is to sell items (smart home services), no matter what they tell you different, this metric can cost you your job.

    Advice to Management

Don't flip flop with what you tell people and trust your technicians when they tell you something.

    Pros

Great starting pay and bonuses for a starting position. Sales directly effect your bonuses so you have a lot of control over it.

    Cons

Long hours or no hours. Management won't help off the clock and doesn't seem to care.

    Advice to Management

Don't just say make it work. I needed help a w times and after trying a few things was given a general "figure it out" instruction when I was new.

I have been working at Blue Sky Satellite full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

4 day work week, great pay, overtime, stellar management team, payroll deduct for tools, company vehicles, fuel card, bonus and commission incentives.

    Cons

Schedule does prohibit making plans outside of your scheduled days off, insurance is insanely high.
Sometimes help on large or complicated jobs would be appreciated

    Advice to Management

Help find ways to cut insurance cost to employees. Further interaction with field service techs
