I have been working at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable employment with flexible hours, good benefits, open door policy, employee recognition, secure facility, and employees are nice folks who get along well for the most part.

    Cons

Traffic coming into and out of facility is a pain. Government contract work means jobs are subject to peril every 5 years.

I worked at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Opportunity for growth, wonderful benefits

    Cons

Little work/life balance, salary and raises for promotions: 5% raises for internal employees (max) while external employees come in at a higher amount

    Advice to Management

Give people what they're worth and they'll stay. Take care of 2 things their time and their wallet and you will find them to be life-timers.

Pay-at the management level, benefits, amount of paid leave time.

    Cons

Pay more for entry level positions to avoid such a high attrition rate. Have more management trainee programs.

I worked at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is okay for Columbia, co-workers can be nice and friendly

    Cons

You will not stop working...EVER. This company has serious issues with its workforce management and work-life balance. If you work in infrastructure support, networking, or systems support, say goodbye to sleep! You will often be up working at 2, 3, 4 in the morning supporting applications that serve absolutely no business function. Entire departments at BCBS have shut down due to the questionability of their purpose. Every tool is outdated and management is paranoid of employees stealing their code. No one wants your useless, outdated, run-of-the-mill code! Networking and ICT have extremely high turnover rates so don't expect to stay here long anyways. If you decide to be a developer, be prepared to wait for months before your code goes to production. Progress is at a baby snail's pace. Do not expect many outings, events with food, "team building" (ha!), or anything other than monotonous work. Do no expect a fancy interior or contemporary workspace. Do expect mold, cockroaches skittering through your workspace, a lack of physical resources to do your job, broken chairs that require an approved purchase order to replace for your desk (a purchase order!), and management constantly breathing down your neck despite the numerous hours past 40 hours per week you've put into your job. Do not expect an FSA debit card, a work phone, a company card, travel, or anything that typically comes with a standard corporate job. If you work in ICT, you will practically work in a dungeon with no windows. If it's not clear yet, let me make it clear. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be replaced with progressive, forward-thinking folks to promise any glimmer of survivability for this meager company.

I have been working at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina full-time

    Pros

Good benefits constantly hiring since its a revolving door

    Cons

Roaches coming out of the walls...constant computer glitches, numerous errors in learning manuals and policy tools , no working bathrooms cause of broken pipes...we had to use porta potties...then another time there was no hot water.

    Advice to Management

Worry about the employees playing on their cell phones more and less about those who are truly trying to work with the constant disruptions in your facility. Not to mention the chronic errors in your training documents and CBT's...you play favorites too often letting some employees get away with everything, while you micro manage other employees. Be fair to all
