I have been working at BluePearl Veterinary Partners full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the people you work with are great, the opportunities to learn are also there

    Cons

Compensation is not equal across board, you can have someone be hired fresh out of school after you while you have much more experience and they end up having a much higher pay rate than you. Don't think about referring a friend to work here I referred someone and the management set up a time to meet with them and instead of contacting them to reschedule just forgot about them and didn't even bother emailing or calling to apologize. Management doesn't listen or learn from the staff about problems that they encounter long story short as long as there is money to be made that is where the attention will go.

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff about problems and actually care.

    Pros

Great medicine, great learning environment, interesting cases, great doctors. Employees (hourly associates and doctors) are great to work with.

    Cons

Lack of management integration; management often stays in their office behind closed doors, leaves early, and are randomly unavailable certain days of the week. Upper management and assistant management also lack communication with each other; employee requests or questions are lost between two fields of management.

Accruing PTO is dismal; PTO required to fill cut hours even in times of family emergencies & death in the family (no true bereavement pay). Employees accrue 6 hours of PTO monthly and start out at zero when they begin employment.

Management also tends to play favorites; employees not working in the ICU tend to be micromanaged more.

No bonuses available for hourly employees. Stingy in pay; holiday pay only available for employees who already work that day of the week, i.e. if Christmas was on a Friday, and an employee has Fridays off, they will not be paid holiday pay for Christmas. Employees are paid for 8 hours of holiday pay (if they are paid at all), although everyone works 10+ hour shifts. BluePearl is owned by Mars, a corporation with a net worth of $60 billion. Hourly associates earn a little over minimum wage in a city (Seattle) with an average rent of $1500/mo. and increasing.

On-call shifts required to fill in the emergency room but to avoid paying employees overtime, the employee will be sent home a random day of the week to avoid overages in hours.

    Advice to Management

Hard to say. Darryl Shaw, the CEO, visited our hospital when he found out employees were unionizing; all he had to offer were corporate sound bites such as "I understand how you feel" and "I know this is frustrating" but didn't offer solutions to our underpaid epidemic. He offered to make sure our computer software runs more smoothly and more "resources" will be available (his vague term), but nothing has changed since Spring 2017 when he visited.

Management could make better use of their time rather than micromanaging employees' time sheets.

    Pros

Great, knowledgeable doctors, access to best medicine, cutting edge technology, great and thorough teaching hospitals, fun staff, good tech appreciation week.

    Cons

Low pay, poor benefits, lack of CE funding, often understaffed, management pressure to do more work with less people, lack of appreciation.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more. A living wage and better benefits would attract more qualified personnel.

I worked at BluePearl Veterinary Partners full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Skilled doctors and technicians, decent equipment, uniform allowance,. Offers CE stipend (used to be be great but has since been decreased).

    Cons

Management is incompetent, aloof, and does not care about concerns brought to their attention (Brooklyn). Some management will "punish" staff by changing hours, scheduling more on call shifts for some and not others, offering better hours/shifts to favorites, engaging in questionable practices when it comes to discipline, i.e.: you may not know you're written up until it affects you financially. They will support bullies but not the target. Some have illegally searched personal belongings. Senior techs are expected to do the job of a supervisor when none is available (overnight) but issues still aren't addressed or resolved by management when brought to their attention. HR in Tampa is useless and more concerned with avoiding potential employee lawsuits due to discrimination or violating labor laws. Coworkers tend to focus on themselves even when they are not busy and often won't help others but will spend time on computers, smartphones, or doing personal things. Some will sleep or take extra long breaks (overnight staff). Look out for less than confident unlicensed coworkers, some engage in sabotage of LVTs that are well respected by doctors and other licensed techs. If you want a steady diet of drama and inept management, this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Allow reviews by staff of hospital managers and supervisors. Not providing breaks to staff is illegal. ER techs should be licensed. Not passing the VTNE several times should result in demotion.

    Pros

Overnight diff. Extra pay when needed. Lots of benefits. Vet tech degree paid for.

    Cons

Depending on management team. communication is poor. Health plan too expensive for more than just associate. Understaffed as usual, but that is the way ER is. High turnover recently, but again, ER life and staff who weren't meant for ER.

    Advice to Management

Continue to advocate for your staff. Communicate every step of the way. Follow through with everything.

I have been working at BluePearl Veterinary Partners (More than a year)

    Pros

-Coworkers bond together strongly- it IS like having a family
    -overtime is always available
-Full benefits -health/life/accident insurance, pet insurance, 401k after- 2 months employment

    Cons

    -ALWAYS short staffed.
-NO breaks of any kind- you may or may not get to eat or pee during your shift.
    -Management support is questionable.
-You will rarely leave your 10 to 12 hot shift on time, be prepared to stay

    Advice to Management

Hire and TRAIN staff adequately. Extra staff doesn't help if they are not trained and have to be babysat. Maybe management needs to step in and either train or hands on assist with cases do btw hires canfocus on training and learning, rather than just tredding water to keep up and follow. TELL your associates they are valued. Like ACTUALLY TELL THEM that they are doing well and recognize the extra work being done to cover the shorts
